Thinkway's Toy Story Collection

o hahah i thought that you thought it was

oh…well i was just happy to know they put out a standard version

My local Wal-Mart had both the new Mr. AND Mrs. Potato Head the other day. They’re pretty decent looking, but I’m waiting for Definitive Collection one… and holding out hope that we’ll still get a Hamm.

At this point I’d buy a Hamm even he isn’t part of the TS Collection as long as he’s sized right. The Hamm that I got from the Disney Store looks awesome and would be perfect, but he’s only half the size he should be.

You know, if you really want a Hamm Toy he’s “going on eBay” for about $6.99 (w/ $13 s+h):http://cgi.ebay.com/HAMM-Saving-Bank-from-Disneys-Toy-Story-VINTAGE-NIB_W0QQitemZ140378060992QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item20af2f38c0

He’s about 7’’ tall, which is pretty much the same size as the film and is in mint condition. He looks pretty much like his film counterpart:

How far off is that one anyway? Because I’m starting to wonder if maybe that was the same Hamm we saw in that one picture. As we know, Thinkway has been re issuing old things anyway, maybe that was their plan the whole time. Based on that other picture (on the red surface), I cant spot of any inaccuracies. When I saw that pic on google years ago I used to shrug it off because I thought Hamm was supposed to be ceramic, but I now realise he’s never been reflective like thought. This is especially obvious in the toy story 3 footage we’ve seen.

So there’s only 2 things left that would stop me from picking that up: is the cork real? don’t think so, since apparently there was one with a real cork that goes for upward of 500 dollars on ebay, so there’s no way its that one. and 2, the scale, which I’m not sure about. Being only about 6 or 7 inches seems smaller than the one pictured at the toy convention or where ever that one was, as well as the movies.

Has anyone thought to mention that picture to them? I don’t want to bug 'em about it, but I’m sure its crossed someones mind by now.

Do we have any idea what his movie scale is supposed to be?

Edit: 7 inches is from snout to tail, not how tall he is. if it were how tall he was thats what I would think of to be movie scale. That one should be only around 4 inches tall.

Well this Hamm was released by Thinkway Toys back in 1995, alongside the original Buzz Lightyear action figure and Woody dolls. Yeah, based on my The Art of Toy Story book, when they were comparing and contrasting Hamm to Bo Peep, it stated that while Bo is made of fine china, Hamm is made to look like porcelain but is actually composed of coarse plastic.

While I can’t say for sure, I think that it’s definitely probable that the Hamm toy in the eBay sale does use a cork, for several reasons. Firstly, he does not have any other openings except for his slot. I assume that based on this fact, and since he’s supposed to be a real working piggy bank, it would only make sens to give him a cork opening (unless all the cash comes in and out of the slot, but Thinkway Toys is better than that). Secondly, I believe the Hamm you were referencing was the WDCC Disney Classic Collect figure, which was more of a limited release statue than a toy, hence the reason why he’s so expensive. Plus, think about it, there’s no possible way a cork alone could drive up the price from $20 to $500.

And hey. Worst case scenario and he doesn’t come with a real cork, I’m definitely positive that they should sell a whole bag of them at your local Michaels or craft store.

As for your question about his height, as I seem to recall he was roughly around 1-2 inches shorter than Mr. Potato Head. Mr Potato Head is aprox. 6 1/2 inches tall, which would make Hamm near 4 inches. So yeah, you were right.

I guess I just always thought Hamm felt larger on screen, maybe because of all the close ups we get of him. its just that the looks so large to me in that infamous one photo we have of him next to the rest of the toy story collection, but I guess there’s always a chance camera angles and whatnot make things look bigger or smaller than they should. in fact their Mr p might be smaller in person than I imagined as well. I might just get me that Hamm after all. well, not that hamm specifically, but that version of him, (90s or re issue, doesn’t matter to me). maybe with any luck he’ll be easier to find soon.

As for the cork, I think I read that its merely plastic or even just flat rubber nub that screws or pops in. I never questioned that that’s where the coins came out of, but whether or not it was something else made to look like cork.

and the cork alone isn’t what drove the price of that one I mentioned up, but how rare it was. I have not seen it though when people mentioned it, so it could very well be it. if its the one I just spotted a few times on ebay though, its not even that accurate looking to me. I was under the impression there was one that was in perfect scale and accuracy.

Yeah, I agree. I think that at any rate I will wait until the Toy Story Collection Hamm comes out with John Ratzenberger’s voice (hopefully). That would be so amazingly cool.

Speaking of which, I just recently picked up the TSC Buzz Lightyear! I wish there was something more about how much I love this toy that hasn’t already been stated. From a technical standpoint, I love how they were able to fit so much electronics in him and still make him have movie accurate proportions.

Im starting to think there wont be a TSC Hamm though, that the one we saw is just a re issue. I think people might be jumping to conclusions because he was next to Mr p.
If their not doing TSC slinky I could see them skipping Hamm too. Especailly if Hamm is already as accurate as it gets.

But I’ll definitely wait it out and see. if nothing is announced by June I’ll get the old one. If I have the rest that is. (not counting utility belt Buzz)

Good to hear you finally got Buzz.

My Old collection

and My New collection

And there you can see that the 1995 Hamm is way off scale.

As you can see, Hamm is supposed to be approximately the same height as Mr./Mrs. Potato Head and Slinky. This is definitely not the case with the 1995 Hamm, pictured above.

I remember having that Woody from when the original film came out. I would always carry it with me like Andy would, and one time it actually got stuck in a tree or something cause I was tossing it up in the air.

That Zurg looks pretty nice too, but I doubt that it does anything.

That settles it then I guess. no 90s Hamm for me.

Yeah. Wow, that pig is tiny compared to the rest of the toys. Which means that the new Hamm definitely isn’t just a re-issue of the original and he could very well be made into a TSC toy! My only question is, if they’re going to have Hamm, Rex and Potato Head, why not Slinky Dog? He always seems to be getting the shorter end of the stick in merchandising (I’m still disappointed he’s not included in Toy Story Mania).

By the way, love Wheezy! And is your original RC the tethered remote or the radio control version?

Maybe it had something to do with Jim Varney’s death, but since we know he’s going to be in Toy Story 3 I’m sure they’ll start doing more things with him.

Well they replaced Annie Potts with someone else for peep, I dont see why that would factor in.

Where did you hear this? :open_mouth:

When I rode the real thing last year and heard her myself. But you gotta keep up, we were talking about Toy Story Mania here, not TS3 silly.

Oh, lol, ok. I thought you were talking about TS3. Nevermind.

Anyway, I guess that settles that the Hamm in the famous photo is not a re-release of the '95 Hamm, since the one in the photo is in scale.
