Thinkway's Toy Story Collection

I justed wanted to post some pictures.

Best friends for “Infinity and Beyond!”

I would have more pictures but my camera needs to be charged.

100th POST!!!

was just about to post that.
it gives us another angle of jessie we havnt seen.

You can really see the odd chin issue she has from here. its not horrible, but does make it look off.

I want to know so bad if they put the sqeakers in the aliens. It’s been bugging me.

Lets just assume they didn’t. We have no reason to expect they changed them, nothing outside of packaging has been changed after they’ve been released, except for when they took out Buzz’s head movement, and that was taking away something, not adding to it. you could argue the army men changed/improved, but I’m not sure those count, as the original didn’t come with the COA. Probably didn’t technically count.

in order to add a squeaker they couldn’t just add one in, they would have to change the type of plastic the whole thing is made out of, into a softer plastic, and I don’t see them doing that. it would probably also address this on the packaging.

I don’t really see the chin issue. I hear what you’re trying to describe, but it doesn’t bother me, I think she looks great. I’d like to see more of Bullseye, and what Buzz’s utility belt does,…

I think the white logo is for the 2nd issue of them like kyle said it probably to hard now i think they made them hard for a reason that way they don’t get squished or any thing i’d prefere them lasting along time then squeaking.

Woody wasn’t given the white logo.

Awhile back I emailed Thinkway about Rex’s mouth and the Alien’s squeakers and they said that they had changed the items due to safety reasons and age grading. I think I read on another board, or perhaps it was on here, someone talking about the Aliens not having squeakers because they would have to be sold in the baby items section, which would in turn hurt the sales. That’s the only reason I could see why they wouldn’t include squeakers, even in a second run of the toys.

If you examine the TOY FAIR pictures you will notice the material is still the same. Look at how his hands shine in contrast to his face. It is obvious to me that they didnt changed ANYTHING. They toy is still hard as a rock.

The utility belt wont do anything. In fact, dont be surprise if it isnt removable at all. I bet the new belt is molded to his pants. If thats the case, and the head no longer moves while he talks, I say this new edition is a rip-off. By the way, the new utility belt LOGO isnt movie accurate. Buzz box has suffered 4 alterations since the original release. The first two are more movie accurate, but the second version is the best.

What other alterations are we talking about?

found this really short video of the TSC Potato head, have no idea idea where it was filmed though :sTOY STORY3 POTATO HEAD - YouTube

Gingyman, what other alterations are you talking about?

Okay, I will explain. First of all, let me state that I have purchased a total of six (6) TSC Buzz Lightyears. I dont intend to keep all of them in their boxes. They are all for display pursposes, some opened and others mint. I didnt purchased all six (6) at the sime time. I acquired them little by little. As I made a new purchase, I started to notice changes in Buzz box. Right now they are all in storage, but If I ever get the chance, I might post pictures of the various versions.

VERSIONS:

1.) Thinkway hadn’t figured out how to correctly bend the box, and as a result, this original version of the box has lots of tape around it. Look for the extra taping on the top front part of Buzz box. This box usually (I bet always) has the bubble-plastic-display-window somewhat deformed because of the way the box was built. Lots of people complained about the damaged box. Others have tried tampering theirs, but you can still notice because once plastic bends it leaves a mark.

2.) Thinkway corrected the way the box is folded. You will NO LONGER see the extra taping on the front part of Buzz box. The box has no tape in the front part where Buzz box folds. As a result, the plastic-clear-windows in these boxes are in excellent shape. This second version of the box is the BEST one Thinkway has released so far. It is also the most movie accurate one. It is practically identical to the first version, but well made. Perfected.

3.) This third version has the correct folding of version two, but Thinkway altered the design for the worst. First of all, they added a TRY ME triangle next to the plastic-clear-window. This makes it less movie accurate. They also changed the circled logo on the plastic-window that stated what the toys does. In this third version the design changed from a circle to star shaped-like symbol. The newer symbol is BIGGER and is in almost neon yellow. In the movie, Buzz box didnt have this logo. The first and second versions had this inaccuracy too, but the logo of the first two version was smaller and made of a darker shade of yellow. It didnt bother me as much as this one. This is the worst version in my opinion.

4).) The fourth version will be the one with the utility belt advertisement. The utility belt logo is incorrect in many sense. It isnt even in the right place to beggin with. Not only that, they left the TRY ME triangle and the star-shaped symbol in front of the plastic-window. This time they tried to make the star-shaped-symbol less notable. Its blue color now. But the worst part of the new box is that they added a new BIG POINTING ARROW towards the utility belt in Buzz front plastic-window. This is horrible!!! This makes the fourth version even less movie accurate than the third one.

After you pressed the wing butten on buzz and his wings pop out, isnt it suposed to make flying sounds once you press it again? In a video review I saw this happens but it does not happen on mine. the one in the video was a version 1 and I thought mine was too becasue aside from that, it fits the description.

thanks for the rundown gingy.

I wonder if there’s any way to obtain a version 2 box. I got the first one, which I like but as you said its all wrinkled in places. i had no idea that was from the entire first wave of them. I assumed it just depended on how they were shipped.

I really wish they’d just give me the photoshop file and let me alter the design as I please. I also wish they could have shaped the box to be more angular and rocket shaped. it didn’t used to bother me much, but its awfully square once I see them side by side.

What would be really cool is if they sold, as an online exclusive deal, movie accurate packaging down to every last detail. They don’t even have to be pre folded, just send them out as is off the printers with the plastic glued in, and let us do the rest. they wouldn’t have to worry about grabbing attention from customers in stores, so no need for any try me holes or toy story collection logos. And they wouldn’t have to make that many, as the market for this type of thing is very small.

and billbarman, yes, its supposed to make sounds when you press the red button after the wings have deployed. strange, maybe that’s another feature they removed?

Mine has the moving head and all the rest of the features which is why I find it strange. and I agree about the box idea. all that stuff is done to show the product off for display. ther defenetly should be a version available where theres a movie accurate box.

i just realized i have the seocnd edition box luckily. i have it on display nest to my buzz and it looks great

Look at this picture:http://legionsofgotham.org/pixarnews/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/tslicensingexpo2009.jpg

Did you see Hamm? He is the right sized and looks perfect.

Yep, we’ve seen that before, but we don’t know whether or not he’s from the collection.

Everyone on youtube was assuming the same thing when this figure came out. I only noticed the change because I went to purchase another one a month after. On that ocassion I was amazed at how good all the box looked. I didnt have to cherry pick my box because they were all in perfect condition. Minutes later I found out why.

Like I said, this second version does NOT have any tape in the top front part of the box. It folds and stays perfectly folded over there, no need for taping like in the first.

Another change I forgot to mention is the try me hole. On the first version, you get a COMPLETE HOLE to insert your fingers. On the second version, you get less of it. They reduced like 20% of the previous hole and arranged it more to the side so it is less visible and more practical. The hole on the first version is more to the center and complete. The third and fourth versions of the box also have the reduced circle arranged to the side.

Shipping has nothing to do with the first wave damaged boxes. It was a design/folding problem which they corrected for the second wave. If you go to a toy store, you will see that all the Buzz boxes are in fine shape. Way better than your first wave box.

You can look on ebay for the second box version. Keep in mind the two changes I explained. You will be able to spot them fast. Look for NO TAPE on the top front part of the box, and the 20% reduced and arranged to the side try-me-finger hole.

Here is a picture of the box from the first wave. Look at the taping on the top and the complete circle hole almost in the center. Also, look at how the incorrect folding of the box diformed the plastic window display.

Here is a picture of the second wave box. Look at how perfect it is. Almost every second version box is like this.

Finally, here is a third wave box. See how perfect it looks. No damage like in the first wave. The folding design was perfected in the second wave, and stayed like that.
