Thinkway's Toy Story Collection

I think its all a matter of opinion. obviously both versions had the eyes stuck together, they seemed to have their minds set on that fact to cut costs. in the old one with separated brows they had to tilt the eyes in order to do it, which may have looked odd depending on who you ask. I think they opened for a more symmetrical/straight set of eyes, so that forced them giving him a uni brow.

I prefer the old way myself, but can understand why some might prefer the new way as well.

In the end, both look off enough to want to buy/make your own set of eyes, and the two separate eye sockets should allow us to do that with relative ease.

Yeah, there has been something about the new Mr. Potato Head that seemed to bug me. I can’t imagine why cause he looks great, but I really think it’s because of those legs. Every time we see a picture or video of him he has those legs showing, so could that really be just a coincidence or is it possible that you really can’t push them down all the way? I also thought his ears looked too big sometimes.

This is kind of a random question, but do you think the parts for the new Potato Head can fit onto the regular Playskool one? I guess that would be if they don’t have a version made without all the electronic stuff.

Well in the case of Mr. Potato Head, accuracy is kind of a two-way thing. You have the film accuracy of Pixar’s version of the character, and then there’s also the accuracy of the real Playskool toy. Of course since he’s for the collection they’re going for film accuracy, but Playskool is helping them make it so maybe that’s why he still has the eyes stuck together cause their Potato Head always did.

Of all the buzz figures that are out so far, do any of them have a helmet that does that woosh thing? i havent seen any that do.

Sadly, no. I wish they did, that would be amazing. They do sell a buzz with karate chop action. its not the Toy Story collection version though.

if your talking about the helmet going all the way back, that’s a physical impossibility. theres no room for that to ever happen.

How is it impossible? It could work if the helmet carries on and ends up concealed in the body underneath the head, if that makes sense.

It is impossible. It can’t even fit and all the electronics are inside him.

Even if we were to completely hollow out his torso, the torso would have to be larger to fit the entire helmet in there. Ive disassembled the 90s version of buzz, so I got to see how much space is in there myself. there’s just no way its ever going to fit without changing his design significantly.

maybe if they hollow it out then make the back part of his helment alot shorter it might fit a little.

Hey guys! I’m Nachoz. You can call me that, or Andrew if you like. I’ve been listening to the Toy Story Collection section of the forum for a little while now, and finally got around to registering. This is gonna be a long post, cuz it’s my first one – but not all mine will be. Now – let’s get a few things out of the way – Yes, I’m a kid. I love playing Halo, Club Penguin, and going on Facebook and YouTube. I have my own Club Penguin YouTube videos if you guys wanna check them out at youtube.com/NachozRuleCP .

While I mainly collect Club Penguin toys, I loooovvveee Toy Story. My two older brothers had a bunch of the Toy Story toys back when the movie came out, which I’ll post pictures of later in the post. I recently discovered the TSC toys. I was at Target and saw a Sheriff Woody. I was like – whoa! This is in the original Woody’s Roundup packaging! I didn’t end up buying it, but I went home and looked it up on Amazon. I found out it was part of the Toy Story Collection, and I then ended up finding all the videos with John Lasseter talking about the TSC toys. They looked really cool and to scale, so I watched a bunch of video reviews of the toys on YouTube. I then realized – I just had to get these toys.

I instantly fell in love with the three Green Aliens, and was gonna go buy it until I found out they didn’t squeak. So now, I’m saving up my money for Woody (dang! Wish I knew about these toys before Christmas!). After that I’ll probably buy either Buzz (my oldest brother had the 1996 Buzz, which was a good one and by Thinkway! But he doesn’t work anymore and doesn’t have nearly as many features as the TSC one), the Bucket O Soldiers (I got some sort of soldier pack four or five years ago, but it wasn’t by Thinkway), or R/C (My brothers had a nice one but it’s not to scale and I can’t find the remote). Don’t think I’m getting Rex, my brother has an awesome one from ’96 or something like that and its by Thinkway and talks. When Wave 2 comes out, whenever that is, I’m most definitely buying Bullseye and Lotso. Still debating on Mr. Potato Head, again, my brother had a pretty good one but he has really bushy eyebrows and isn’t by Thinkway. Plus the new one’s feature for his body parts to fly off when you scream at him is epic.

Now time for what I wish would be.

Wave 1
-Sheriff Woody
-Buzz Lightyear
-Rex
-R/C
-Bucket O Soldiers
-Aliens

Wave 2
-Jessie
-Bullseye
-Utility Buzz (well, don’t really care about him but he’s already confirmed)
-Mr. Potato Head
-Lotso
-Trixie, possibly?

Wave 3
-Slinky Dog
-Prospector / Stinky Pete
-Bo Peep
-Emperor Zurg
-Hamm
-Yeah, I know, I seriously doubt this, but Wheezy.

Now time for pictures of a lot of my Toy Story merchandise already, then I have a question for you guys. Lol, I feel like I’m hosting a TV show.

These are my / my brothers’ Toy Story toys we have that are good quality and to scale:

These are various pictures of my (well, mostly my brothers’) Toy Story toys:

This is the box to Mr. Potato Head I found in the bucket:

And this is random, I know, but here’s the old Toy Story PC game from long ago:

Soo, yeah. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL TOY STORY 3!!! And here’s a question:
Should I wait until Utility Buzz to get a Buzz Lightyear?

Okay guys, Thanks! And sorry for long post,
~Andrew / Nachoz

What i want to know is that is Mr. Potato Head’s arms bendable? There are so many images that show and even videos show an indication that his arms are bendy, but I’m still not sure. I just wish he’d just come out now! I worry about the other parts of Potato Head, but the arms are what really worries me right now.

How could they not be bendy? They do all kinds of wiggling around in the videos we’ve seen.

Welcome to PixarPlanet NachozRule! I’m actually pretty new too, but I hope you have a great time here

I love your toys!! They’re so awesome. Unfortunately, I live in a place where Pixar toys are VERY expensive. Oh well. But I have McQueen and Mater, for which I’m very grateful!!

Good luck with expanding your toy collection!

Hey guys, first post here. Figured I’d share a pic of my current Toy Story setup.

Yeah, I would love for them to make that. I started a page called “Buzz’s Helmet” about this issue.

I know there won’t be a TSC Slinky but I was really annoyed when I saw the pictures of him at the Toy Fair. The toy companies didn’t learn that putting the stupid rope on Slinky’s head is really annoying and ugly. I wouldn’t mind if they put it on his chest.

I know. That’s why I cut off the one on my Slinky Dog.

So we have another person complaining about thelack of a squeek in the Green Aliens, which is cool as we all want these toys to look as accurate as possible but seriouly how often were you going to squeek them?

They look amazing! They are soooo acurate in look and in scale with the others toys, I’m prepare to over look a lack of a squeek!

Big issues like a lack of a Slinky and Hamm are really annoying me. I’m even prepared to over look Mr Potatoe Heads joined up eyes as he looks amazing and is more like the movie Pototoe Head than anything we have had so far.

I think it is worth bearing in mind when complaining about no squeek, legs looking fat, body no slim enough or the helmet doesn’t fully conceal it’s self that these toys are representations of what we see on screen and not an exct replica as they never existed in the first place other thn in a machine where they were designed to lok good ion the big screen. There are physical limitations when convering these over. For example wWoody’s legs may be bigger in order to support the weight of the boots. If the join at his hips is too small it may just break. Jessie is probably bigger to be able to have a voice box in there.

Anyway rant over!

Honestly, I am quite pleased with the replicas Thinkway has been turning out. They are great pieces. The best ever available to the market and for that very reason why I want them for my collection.

I do believe there are limitations, both by physical design and for safety reason that may not allow them to produce the toys with as much detailing as possible. I am also aware that sometimes things in the manufacturing of such toys change that are out of control of the original production expectations.

I am disappointed that the Lassiter videos have made it sound like these are exact replicas to the screen design specifications, because in truth some are lacking with such. I don’t know if it is more marketing PR or if he just did not have the eye for detail that more fanatic collectors have here. I would think it is the latter. It is this marketing expectation that has created some disappointment for me, especially with the mentality that Pixar and Thinkway could do better, which is what we have grown to expect from Pixar.

At the end of the day, I am happy to have the best of the best that is available and happy that they decided to tackle this collectors market. I hope they do not take the negative remarks too harshly, as in the big scheme of things, these are toys we are talking about.

I agree with Tripoli. I’m new to this site but not collecting. I’m a huge Batman fan and have a huge collection of items. Until I joined this site I never noticed the minor gripes of the various figures in the toy story collection. Different boxes, paint discrepancy, Body size etc. I only knew one thing. Those from the collection looked better than the ones my son has. The thing with producing these ‘replicas’ is that just because an animator can draw it doesn’t mean a toy manufacturer can make. An animator is limited by their imagination. A manufacturer is limited by physics. This is a great site with some real knowledge floating about. Gutted that I have a broken Buzz though. Who knew his head is supposed to move?
