Even if it still only retracts half way, having it button activated is new, and definitely more screen-accurate.
What is it about this Buzz that makes you say it is a horrible toy? At least “on paper” it seems to get quite a few features right, or at least more right than any Buzz so far.
Well yeah, on paper they can have it “do” everything he does in the movie, but whats the point if it completely changes his appearance? a button that makes the helmet go back sounds cool on paper. but look at the thing (the button), it looks really odd. like instead of the button being the button, it has a button of its own.
things like that, the awful wings, etc, I’m not sure any of its worth it. unless this somehow leads to further advancements to make a future TSC esk release any better. somehow I’m not sure whats what’s happening here. they made compromises. kinda like what they have to do with transformers toys when the on screen counterparts cheat too much. instead of getting at least one mode that looks great, both modes suffer in some way.
A big red button on his back to activate his chopping action ruins the appearance. Its a bad sculpt to begin with, the wings are just ok, no glow in the dark, weird phrases… yeah. Bad toy.
I like the Lotso they have on that page though. He doesn’t look as evil as some of the cheaper plushes we have in the US. The main reason I spent so much on TSC Lotso was because I didn’t want an evil looking bear.
I’m guessing the arms in Toy Story must have been based on those arms then. I wonder why Playskool stopped making them like that. The arms they make for Potato Head now are a lot shorter than those ones.
About Mattel Jessie: I picked up the one I’ve been seeing today and mistakenly thought it was the good scaled talking version that Theclaw posted cause it looked like it was the same one, but unfortunately…
…the scale is way off compared to the Woody that I have, and there’s no pullstring on this one. This is more of a Barbie type Jessie then. So before anyone else gets confused, make sure the Jessie you find from Mattel is the talking one.
I thought so also, but then when I saw how close Theclaw’s was with Woody I assumed it was the same one. Guess not. In fact, I completely missed his comment on that Jessie being only in Europe.
However I do have her standing next to TSC Buzz right now, and she’s in perfect scale with him.
I almost made the same mistake last week, but it looked too small to be the right one, and once I realized it wasn’t a ragdoll, I knew it wasn’t the same one. It’s decent looking anyway, but I’m glad I caught myself before I bought it.
Like vamp_jojo said, probably safety reasons, but by the time Toy Story came out, they had already switched over to the solitary Potato Head arms we know and hate.
I wish you would have mentioned something here before you bought it. I could have saved you the bother. That doll (it is a Barbie scale doll body) was discussed a few weeks ago. I already have one of those, so I could have told you it was way out of scale, not to mention the lack of a pull string, the inflexible arms and legs, and the woefully inaccurate costume. The one thing that was good about it is the head sculpt, which is the same (but smaller in size) as the UK version.
