TOY STORY 3 MR. AND MRS. POTATO HEAD
(Ages 2 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $9.99/Available: Fall 10)
Mr. and Mrs. are ready for adventure with the rest of the Toy Story 3 gang! These classic POTATO HEAD characters look just like they do in the movie, from hats down to shoes. Available at most major toy retailers nationwide and on HasbroToyShop.com.
Since those have been available for about two months, and the announcement from Hasbro lists availability as “Fall 10”, we are all assuming that those are not the versions mentioned. Plus, the announcement says they “look just like they do in the movie, from hats down to shoes”, which those versions obviously do not.
I just had to post this photo. I’m really impressed with the articulation of Chunk and Sparks. We all know about the inaccuracies of each, but still, they are well worth the price for me.
Yeah, I caved and bought them as well. Like you said, they probably won’t bother to do TSC versions, so these are pretty solid. If they do decide, I’ll make up my mind whether to double dip when the time comes. I think Sparks is the only one I’d be truly tempted to get. What could/would they do if these three got the TSC treatment?
Twitch: The inclusion of his staff and perhaps a sound feature for starters. What would take me over the edge would be if they made his “vest” a seperate piece.
Chunk: Not a whole lot except make his face longer and thinner like the Mattel 6" and maybe some additional paint washes.
Sparks: So much could be improved here. I don’t really care what they did so long as the arms were more “metal” looking. LEDs, extendable torso, sounds, and better “sparks” would just be bonuses for me.
Still, after all is said and done, I’m a sucker for the packaging. I’d love to see the virtual line that Twitch was a part of.
I really hope those figures make it to the UK. Unlike most of the stuff that’s in the US, I haven’t seen these advertised here. I can’t find a listing at any UK store. I hate the thought of paying more for shipping to here than they are to buy. I can only hope that once the film hits next month they will appear here.
Had a go at some eyebrows for chatter phone. Not perfect by any means but there isn’t much room above the eyes. I tried to get a one raised look.
Personally I would have made the eyebrows on the chatter phone symmetrical, I really like the one on the right side.
I forgot to comment on the Ken on the last page, very good job making him look like the film Ken, the shorts bulge looks slightly off but everything else looks fantastic.
Suddenly find myself regretting that I let go of the chatterphone, etch-a-sketch and barrel of monkeys I had as a kid. I only held on to dolls & stuffed animals (because, as proved by Toy Story, they have feelings)
Do you guys think pixar is still buying up kens? I just realized that the same person is bidding against me in EVRY animal lovin ken auction ive bid on. Hes won the others so i cant figure out why he would be buying up so many unless hes a scalper, or pixar.
I have a hard time believing that they really are buying up anything. First, Pixar isn’t directly involved in the manufacture or marketing of any toys, so their incentive to “corner the market” seems pretty low. And second, why only Ken, and not vintage Chatter Telephones and other toys that people might be looking for as replicas?
They figured demand would be greatest for Ken because of his role in the movie. I’m not sure why they’re ony doing it for Ken. I guess it was just his role in the movie. And the main idea is that they’re trying to get people to buy the new 2-pack. But still, why Pixar? Couldn’t Mattel just elmiminate the middle man by doing it themselves?
If it’s true, it makes just about as much sense as someone buying up all the Etch A Sketches after the first Toy Story was released.
I posted this, straight from the the mouth of Lee Unkrich, in the Ken outfits Thread but I didn’t post the source -
A somewhat altered Toy Story 3 version of the doll is available. But don’t expect to find many of the originals being sold online. “We have a stack of them in the office,” the director says. “We bought them up on eBay for years, knowing they would be in demand after the movie came out. Now you can’t find them.”
Yes, I’ve read that quote before, but I question how serious he was when he said it. It seems to be fairly tongue-in-cheek to me. In other words, I think he’s just having some fun with the insanity of ebay.
Yeah, don’t take it too seriously. I don’t doubt that many employees did buy them, a lot of them. but theirs nothing to stop others from popping up. They made tons of them.
It’s probably Michael Keaton. I imagine him sitting in some dark corner of his mansion surrounded by thousands of original Animal Lovin Ken Dolls as he sits reciting all his lines from Toy Story 3 while constantly hitting “refresh” on Ebay waiting for more Ken Dolls to be posted online.
Or it could just be that MIB versions of Ken are pretty rare to find, especially with increased demand due to Toy Story 3 and once outside of the box an Animal Lovin Ken Doll is difficult to identify/describe in an auction (unless it’s listed as “leopard print shirt” or “blue shirt/shorts” or similar).
More like completely and utterly tongue-and-cheek! That’s like George Lucas paying millions of dollars buying up all the vintage Star Wars figures so that people would be forced to buy the new versions for $7.99.
So no else is a fan of Big Baby?! I tried looking for something on ebay, but all my searches brought up a bunch of matches for these “reborn” dolls. Now I can’t search any more as just seeing those things give me CREEPS! Google it if you never heard of them, but be warned.
