Might want to avoid Toys 'n Joys unless you happen to be in Honolulu and can go to the actual store. They had some bad reviews on Yahoo & Yelp for online services and get an F rating from the Better Business Bureau for numerous complaints.
HAHAHA VICTORY IS MINE!!! I finally scored an original animal lovin ken!!! he doesnt come with any shoes so I’ll have to find some but that is the least of my worries
also look at this guys picture. What house is that and did you notice all the accurate ken costumes? I kind of wonder if mattel has some more plans for toy story 3 ken and this is some type of prototype he photographed. You have to enlarge the photo, but its obvious that these arent real 1980s kens and that they are the new mold. flickr.com/photos/lorenjavier/4729571740/
Look at the rest of that set1 Tons of toy story stuff! What do you guys make of this slinky? I see no string and ive never seen that one before!
Im definately keeping him original. I just need some accurate shoes and he’ll be perfect. In the future, i may buy some more 80’s kens and some flamboyant outfits for them. Im also looking into getting a dream house, but i dont think one similar to the film was ever made.
Yeah, that Slinky Dog’s really weird. He looks really nice and realistic from that image but from a closer inspection in the Original Size, he turns out to be a strange variation called “Hover Hound”.
It appears to be a combination of Slinky Dog and a hover craft?
I had said above that I would update with a new group shot after I got Bullseye. Well, he finally arrived in Central Florida yesterday. There were four to pick from, all were flawed. I decided to take the one with the wrinkled neck. After I got him home I opened his belly battery compartment, cut a small hole in the lining and stuffed more fiberfill in his neck. No more wrinkle! The stand is REALLY wobbly, and I think I am going to email Thinkway for a new one. But the horse himself is fantastic! I also completed my PIXAR ball yesterday. I ended up messing up the star on the other side, so it will always face out this direction…but that is okay…out of sight, out of mind.
And I do realize that the Replica thread is not the right place to talk about Bullseye, but my collection is so found object and altered object heavy that this seems like the right thread still.
Man, I always enjoy it when you post updates! Bullseye looks great, and I absolutely LOVE that Pixar Ball! It looks fantastic. Kind of makes me want to try and create my own, to be honest.
Been lurking around this thread for a long time , and gosh wampar , going back from the old pictures , your impressive collection has gotten even more impressive over the days . Your collection really motivates collectors like me to improve on my own collection . Nice work again , wampar . Love that Pixar Ball of yours , look’s f-amazing .
Awesome as always, wampar! Would you mind posting details/instructions about how you created the Pixar Ball look? I’ve never tried painting a rubber surface like that before, so I’m kind of clueless about what to do. But after looking over your collection, I’m feeling adventurous!
Oh, and sorry to hear about your Bullseye stand, but Jenny should be able to take care of it for you. She is pretty awesome.
Hey Tyler , just wondering .
Regarding the Hamm on your very first post , is it the same Hamm that everyone’s getting from Disney Store for $19.95 , or a totally different one ? Thanks !
I thought my collection was coming on pretty well. Then I look at Wampars, and I realise just how much more I have to get. I also realise that I’m gonna have to do a ton of overtime to afford it all. That has to be the ultimate movie collection.
Certainly. The ball was a third attempt, and there will still be a final version coming in the fall (more on that later.) First off I have to thank Tyler for the suggestions of how to handle it properly. I wont go into my first two failed attempts…here is what finally worked: get a standard rubber bouncy ball of the size you want: spray it first with “Plastidip Spray” which I found at my local Lowes Hardware Store with the Spray Paint. It makes a new slightly harder rubber coating. I personally put four coats on each side. Make sure you give the recommended drying time. After that I sprayed the entire ball with a gray spray primer. After that was dry I painted the entire ball with a glossy yellow spray paint. Make sure it has plenty if dry time before you try to flip the ball and paint the other side…or before you move on. Once the yellow was done I used standard blue painters tape and taped off a band around the outside, covering the yellow I wanted to keep by taping down papertowels. Spray your blue, and after drying, be very careful removing the tape from the ball. While the plastidip and the primer help the paint hold on, it will still lift off (I learned the hard way). To make the star I did a simple google search for star shaped clip art, opened it in Photoshop and adjusted the size. I printed that out and traced it onto a piece of airbrush frisket paper. Cut out the star and applied the frisket to the ball in the right place. Gettin it to form to the ball properly was a little tricky, but I found that the frisket lifted easier than the tape had, so there is less chance of messing it up with that material. Cover the rest of the ball and spray your red. After adequate drying time repeat on the other side.
The main problem I found for me has been humidity. I live in Florida. For the the entire summer we have about 90-100 percent humidity at all times, so the paint didn’t want to dry, and even when it did dry it still had a tendency to get a little tacky therefore adhere to whatever I had it drying on. I am going to do this again in the fall after our humidity has returned to a normal percentage…and most likely give a couple of days of dryin time between paints and materials to assure that they are completely dry.
I am glad you guys seem to like what i have been doing…but I just want to put out there the fact that this collection was started 15 years ago. I have a very simple life on a very strict budget. And have been adding to this off and on for a decade and a half. Sure I have spent a lot of money recently due to TSC and TS3, but most of the background items are either old, recently refurbished to fit into my TS world, or made from simple materials that can be found cheaply at a variety of stores.
That’s what makes your collection special Wampar. I’ve seen collectors with unlimited budgets buy up everything in their path. They push up prices that make it so hard for the others to match. The thing is there are very little personal touches to those peoples collections. They see, they buy. i like a collection with soul and an insight to the collector who has them. My Batman collection has many garage kits that I have painted my way. I enjoy altering them to how they fit me best. Over the last 25 years I could have bought enough Batman items to fill a house. I choose to buy just that item that intrigues me. Those items will be passed on to my kids with the hope they value them like I do.
