Toy Story Replicas (No trading-related posts please)

Yup. Check out the “fun facts” on toy story 3’s imdb page.

I always thought he was about 2 inches tall, like those novelty character led lights, which he is. Squeeze his body to light up, via the led and watch batteries.

“Story time becomes extra special when Bookworm joins the fun! This bedtime reading companion encourages your child’s love of reading, while keeping them company with his happy smile. Bookworm’s sturdy flashlight features an extra-long-lasting lightbulb, bright enough to read by without causing eyestrain. Two C batteries included. Ages 4 and up.”

2 C batteries? I guess he’s supposed to be HUGE for that to work. C batteries are HUGE and I dont see why a light that size would need 2 of them to light it, when at most it takes 2 double a’s or around 10 volts. Something seems off in that description.
But it WOULD make sense for it to be designed that way, being an OLDER toy when companies still overused battery powered that resulted in always fast and always explosive corrossion.

I was using the scale on the basis of what was said in the other thread. Combined with what Wampar posted, 6 inches seems right. As for the description on the Disney site I wouldn’t take it as gospel. They got the height of Twitch badly wrong. Two c size batteries just doesn’t ring true.

Not sure if this belongs here or my thread, but this this one seems more mod friendly I’ll ask here. has anyone considered, or actually have, used some kind of gloss on Mr p’s Hat and mustache? thinkway made them very dull in texture, their supposed to be of a shinier softer plastic. While we cant easily change its softness, we can make them shinier. I just wonder how it would look. I wouldn’t want it too reflective or anything, just a bit more than it already is.
Eyes could use some too.

I was just about to do that to my spud last night. Wipe both the pieces down with mild water and soap, dry completely, and apply a few light mists of Crystal clear spray paint. Will do the trick.

I’ll actually do it to my pieces later tonight, so I’ll show you pics before you do it on your own.

Thats the ONLY reason I like the hard plastic pieces, rather than softer plastic, or even rubber, which is a b to paint. The parts now can be painted as is, with appropriate surface cleanup.

Speaking of eyes, the paint on the mr. p eyes (final) will be gloss black, rather than matte or flat. I was going to do gloss white too, but it appears the “gloss” is just on the pupils themselves, which will reflect the light ever so subtley giving those one or two white dots associated with character eyes.

Cool, cant wait to see the glossy parts.

Also cool to hear your glossing the pupils. The TSC eyes have really lacked that specular highlight needed to make him look more lively.

And I think your right about the eye whites not being glossy, its more of an egg shell. material. I too thought they were glossy but looking at wallpapers and such I don’t see any harsh specular highlights.

I’m going to see TS3 again in a couple of hours, this time in 3D. I’ll be on the look out for gloss. heh. I could have sworn I saw it glossy at some point.

my buzz could also use some eye gloss. the only TSC toy I have that has glossy eyes is woody. the replacement one, not the one I originally bought. not sure if they started added more gloss or what but my new hand picked by thinkway woody has surprisingly glossy eyes.

some guy on sideshow forums has gloss his buzz eyes but he doesn’t know how to take the best pics to show it off.

It’s hard to get it perfect, because otherwise, it puddles a the bottom, and makes it look like they’re crying.

Two C batteries would easily fit in a 6 inch toy.

Sorry about the repost but I have searched the other threads looking for any info on the blocks and found nothing. I may have found something locally but it is quite expensive (from a specialist toy trader - not a variety chain). Was hoping to avoid their price tag - even though the blocks look screen accurate.

I found this in regards to the alphabet blocks:

cgi.ebay.com.au/WOODEN-ALPHABET- … 335ceac5cd

But I don’t know how accurate they are to the onscreen model. Perhaps someone could shed some light on this.

I’ll try and get a screen grab and compare it to the ones I can get locally. I am thinking the ones I have found are extremely close.

2 c type batteries are about 4 inches in length. Then you have to take into account that a section has to unscrew. Say the last tail piece. Then you have the overall diameter of Bookworm and it’s really gonna be tight.

I think the descriptions on the Disney site are more there for fun than as actual fact. It simply give’s the toys more of a real world feel. A history of sorts.

Dont know if these images have been posted here before, but I’m sure I’ll get a “yeah they have, about 2 years ago, in high def, use the search feature dude” haha:

OK, this may be more of an eBay rant than a replica comment… but of the Animal Lovin’ Ken auctions on eBay right now, 2 have quite a few bids… and neither meet the “Reserve” price. - I just don’t understand the point of starting an auction below the Reserve price? If one has a minimum they won’t sell below, then why not start the auction with that as the minimum bid???

It’s all about the psychology of auction bidding. Most people have a tendency to become emotionally invested in a particular auction once they have placed a bid. I have watched people continue to bid on an auction for an item, even when another identical item is available with a buy it now price lower than their current bid. Reserve price auctions are designed to get people into that mode of “I bid on this, and I’m going to win it” by letting them place small bids, even though there is no chance of that bid meeting the reserve price.

Of course, reserve auctions do tend to scare some people away, but eBay has done enough research to know that, in the end, there will still be more people who bid than there will be people who avoid the auction.

Where some sellers fail is when they set their reserve price too high, mostly because they don’t understand how to “work the system”.

I remember a video where John Lasseter had all of the Woody’s Roundup merchandise that had been made into real products for the making of Toy Story 2. He even had a full box of Cowboy Crunchies.
I’ve never seen the other Cowboy Crunchies box before, but it’s funny how the sugar-coated, chocolate double-dipped cereal became just oven toasted oats after people started caring about healthy cereals.

Lookie what I found.

And what did you find Mr. Vague? Remember this is isnt a contest, or a “prove me wrong” type of thing, and never is, so feel free to type your thoughts or even give me a call rather than posting a picture and going “meh” or something.

Speaking of which though, I will cap the mr. p eyes at 15 sets. If someone wants to buy the molds from me, and sell castings to folks let me know because I’m retiring them this week after I get everyones cast and paint finalized.
