Toy Story Replicas (No trading-related posts please)

Tonight at Target I had both the non-TSC Jessie and the Jessie Fashion Doll in my hand. In person the sculpts are actually very similar, the only differences really are that the fashion doll has the open mouth, and eye brows slightly raised, to give her that slightly crazy look…but as far as the face shape and actual look of the sculpt, they are very similar and seem like the same toy just with different expressions.

And the doll is smaller. It is true.

IMO There has still not been a picture of the TSC Jessie that I think does the actual sculpt justice if it is the same sculpt as Thinkway’s non-TSC, which I have to assume it is.

How hard would it be to get Jessie to drop some weight in her waist? that’s the main thing that bothers me. Would it even be possible? You might have to remove her voice box but I’m just wondering if it can be done, period.

I bet it can without removing the voice box. The one on Woody is pretty small, and smaller than his waist. There is a bit of cotton around it to bulk out, so I’m sure if you un-seam it or go in through the compartment way to take in her shirt, it would bring the waist in more after removing the excess cotton.

As far as I know (based on the Toy Fair photos) the TSC Jessie sculpt is identical to the non-TSC version, just with the addition of yarn hair. As far as what makes the Mattel sculpt better, there are three elements that I see. 1) The eyebrows are at a better angle (as noted), 2) the iris/pupils in the eyes are smaller (the Thinkway versions are too large, and take away from the personality of the character), and 3) the mouth is better, but not just because it is open more, but because the lower teeth are slightly askew. The mouth on the Thinkway version just looks off to me in that regard. There may also be some slight improvement in the ears as well, but the difference there is really minor, and might be nothing more than the difference in size between the two sculpts.

The reason I want the regular Mattel version now is because I believe that it is in proper scale (or really close), and from what I can see in the product photos the basic sculpt is the same as the fashion doll, just larger. If I am wrong, and the Mattel version is NOT in scale, it is possible that it is using the exact same molds as the fashion doll version. Unfortunately, I have no way to confirm this, though.

The thing about about the crooked lower jaw is that while it might be more accurate to her as she’s talking, her toy mode seems to have a very symmetrical smile. So I see them both being equally accurate in that regard. the same goes for the brows in a way. one just looks more surprised. you might have a point about the rest though. Can you link me to this Mattel doll though? all Ive seen is the fashion one and thinkway’s. there’s an older Mattel one, but that was pretty different I think.

I can certainly see your point, and maybe it is just the combination of the elements that makes the sculpt “pop” for me. Although, the difference in the eyes is definitely noticeable when you hold the two dolls side by side. The Mattel version is much more accurate in that regard, and it really goes a long way to create the “crazy” effect in her expression.

And here is a photo from the product page:

Hmm, wish I knew how to sew then. (now theres a sentence I never thought I’d say)

And robodad, that does look pretty good. Its probably too small though, just a hunch.

Yep, that’s my biggest fear. If the head sculpt is the same one as the fashion doll, then it would only be about 75-80% scale. Either way, I’m still getting the TSC version, but I sure would like to have this one as well.

Does anyone know when the replica Twitch comes out? He is on amazon but he is out of stock

I don’t think he was ever IN stock, like most of the new toys listed there. We don’t know though. Probably some time this month, but that just my best guess.

I wasnt suggesting he had been in stock, i was just saying. What is everyones opinion of the cheaper regular twitch? He is 6 inches so he meets the films description(although he is clearly larger in the film)

the 6 inch seems more accurate in sculpt and detail, but I wouldn’t bother with it unless it was to scale. I don’t care that they claim he’s supposed to be 6 inches in the movie, he’s clearly not, so I’d avoid this unless scale doesn’t matter to you.

I wont likely buy the larger one either, but if I were buying him it’d be that one.

With a repaint he wouldn’t be too bad, aside from the missing staff. But the question of scale is huge (no pun intended). The paint job on the larger one looks much closer to the film version to me. And I do have that version pre-ordered at Amazon.

You think the larger has a more accurate paint job? he seems to be missing paint to me. I’d say the reverse is true, the large wouldn’t be too bad with some more paint added.

Edit: by the way, I think sparks could really benifit from some crome plating.

The larger Twitch on Amazon:

The film version:

And the smaller version:

Look at the paint detail on the legs and antennae. The smaller version is completely wrong, but the larger version is much closer.

The Jessie featured on this page is in my local TRU. I posted her on the TSC thread because I had never seen her before. In my opinion, she is to scale. Her head sculpt is fantastic. Her body is very slim. This is the reason I’m in a spin as to if I should wait for the tsc or get this one. If I get to tru today I will take a pic next to a thinkway toy for scale. Like I said, she looks on but you guys know better than me.

because I live in the UK I could of got this and I should of. they only had 2 left. She only says 5 phrases when I pulled her string but I wonder if that is just a try me mode. She is not a doll size. She is the actual jessie size and she looks more accurate in person.

The 12" Twitch is AWEsomE! I’ve got him preorderd along with Sparks and Chunk. 1:1 scale, from the file replicas. Awesome. And they’re only $25 each. I’m sure they’ll be $80 when repackaged with a “certificate”.

Sparks and Chunk will look amazing with repaints, Twitch looks perfect as is. And if he doesnt include the staff (I bet he does, he’s only pictured loose) making one would be easy as f.

Outside of Lotso, those are the only TS3 “dudes” I wanted, so I cant wait until they come in stock and Ican start building my display case.

Like someone had pointed out when I posted the 6 figure, that size is incorrect. It lists “above 5 inches” on his product description from pixar, so Iguess it was just a rough generalization. 12" is the correct scale, same for Robot, and Chunk. The only Stretch available so far, is the 6" scale figure one, and needs to be sized up about 4 times larger.

Who is that astronaut? Yet another super secret character?

Ive heard its barbie
