Trailer #3 - NEW

Ha-ha. Great stuff! I’m constantly reminded of R2-D2…

– Mitch

XD I totally loved that part, too!

Absolutely amazing. In comparison to previous Pixar films, there’s something so…realistic about it. I mean, of course all of the other films looked realistic to a certain extent- especially Ratatouille as it’s the latest release- but not like this. It’s like another step further.

I cannot wait for this film! :open_mouth:

lizardgirl- I read in an interview that Andrew Stanton said that Pixar is using brand new technology to simulate a real life camera. So I guess their investment was definitely worth it 'cus it worked on us!

martini- That’s very interesting! There did definitely seem to be something different about the way Wall-E looks, so I guess that explains it.

“real” cameras in cg are not at all new. Most FX houses have had them for a decade or so.

And as far as “realism” is concerned, I hope this isn’t a trend with Pixar. I didn’t think Ratatouille looked “real” at all. It was better than THAT. It was like a painting come to life. I hope Pixar continues to make Cartoons.

Let’s say you’re right, and FX houses ALWAYS had this, well did they use it for 1:30 plus of film (that’s A LOT to render)? I think not. Besides, it’s a movie about robots so realism is a nice touch. And you never know, Pixar IS the top animation studio so chances are this is some sort of new rendering technique. After all Pixar develops RenderMan which most studios use.

Who cares how long it’s used? It’s been used a LOT. And I bet Pixar bought it off the shelf. I’m sure they’ll put it to good use.

Also–“most studios” don’t use Renderman. MANY do, but less than ever. Most animation studios have their own renderer.

And equating “real” with “better” is just plain silly.

Why are you taking this so personally. Stop being rude, your point was made and nobody seems to care. Pixar doesn’t buy things of the shelf btw or they’d use Maya. Insulting Pixar on Pixar Planet is just stupid. When did I equate real with better, and it’s a simulation, which means it’s not real, thus leaving room for improvement for making it better.

Who’s taking this personally? How about getting things right?

Pixar DOES use Maya–they’ve said so. It’s integrated into their system.

Excuse me while I correct you.
As you said, “let’s get this right”, Pixar uses it’s own proprietary software such as Marionette, so they can edit it according to their needs. They HAVE incorporated RenderMan INTO Maya but don’t necessarily use it for the films. Let me remind you that I’m not attacking you and that you should calm down.
P.S. Can we get back on topic.

The topic is your ignorance. THey do use Maya on their films and have stated so many times. They don’t use ONE systerm–but many depending on the needs. Just like every other studio. Those are the facts.

But I’m glad you admit you agree with me that the software isn’t important–the story/telling is.

Edited. I combined both of your posts. – Mitch

I might edit the comment on my ignorance before you get banned. How about this, show me a source, and settle this fairly, they aren’t facts unless you back them up without your annoying rants. BTW anyone here would know Pixar uses Marionette as an alternative to Maya, check the credits, they list the software/hardware they use, it NEVER says Maya. And remember this forum is on the topic of the WALL-E trailer, saying it’s about my ignorance shows how dumb you sound.
Now let’s FINALLY get back on topic unless you can genuinely prove me wrong!

First off, CartoonBoy, I see your new, so I’ll let you off easy, but being openly rude is not allowed on these forums. So I suggest you watch yourself before you get banned.

Secondly, many movie studios do use Maya, however, many of them alter the program/custamize it to their own needs, thus creating their own kind of program.

I’m not sure if Pixar used Maya, but I know for sure that they aren’t using it now. Marrionette is their program of choice, something that the ingenious Pixar designers whipped up themselves.

Thanks, Googly-Bear. I’d just like to add that Pixar’s Marionette evolved from their previous program Menv, and if Pixar’s employees EVER use Maya it would be for personal, non-Pixar films that general audiences will not see. About the new rendering technique, Pixar wouldn’t A) Buy rendering software of the shelf or B) Use outdated technology. After all they make world class films(!!), so Andrew Stanton would know if this technology was innovative, and from what I’ve seen it definitely is for a full length animated film.

No problem Martini.

Wow. That trailer is beautiful! It’s also the first one we see where Central Services is not playing :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t know [spoil]EVE was bigger than WALL•E!! I thought she was small, like an egg or something[/spoil]

The part where [spoil]WALL•E watches Hello Dolly and sighs[/spoil] is really sad :`-(

I loved the part where [spoil]EVE is flying through the air and suddenly she gets her laser gun out  [/spoil] and also where [spoil]WALL•E throws out the ring just to examinate te box XD [/spoil]

And also, the part where [spoil] WALL•E grabs some of that blue space dust or whatever it is [/spoil] is beautifully animated

What can I say… beautiful trailer…

Sorry about that Mitch
Back on topic: Wasn’t it sad when [spoil]WALL-E sees all the different EVEs and reaches for them on the Axiom, I felt so bad for him.[/spoil]

I know, [spoil]poor WALL•E![/spoil] :`-(
