I am listening to the
presentation right now…
“Squash and Stretch” is the term John uses to describe what they
really were striving for when making this movie. He said that computer animation likes to make things that are
“rigid” and after studying rats over and over John said that they needed to master "true squash
and stretch in the film." Also, they worked hard on making the FOOD look really delicious. "You will be
hungry after seeing this film."
Wall-E- "He is taking his wetsuit off (Finding Nemo) and putting
on his spacesuit." Referring of course to Andrew Stanton
Wall-E is the last little robot on Earth, his
programming is to help clean up earth and make it habitable again. Eve checks to see how things are going and
Wall-E falls in love with her and follows her into her space ship.
"You see a vision of space in this
movie like you have never seen before, it is really spectacular" says John.
"These little robot
characters…are the most charming characters we ever created."
n
Hopefully, Wall - E and Eve will have more chemistry than they did…![]()
oh yeeaaaaaah, see, I saw that movie, but I didn’t even notice that they had a
“thing”!!!
their chemistry was so…

Man!! A post appocolyptic earth!! cool!! a little dark for a Pixar storyline,
but I love Si-Fi’s about Dystopian Earth… so this will be right up my alley!! WOOO!
ROBONICS95 - Yeah – “squash and stretch”. That’s exactly what I meant.

Thanks for the update! I’ll listen to the show sometime today…if I have the chance. I like your
mention of what they said concerning the food looking delicious. I’ll have to buy lots of Skittles packs when I
go see the film to satisfy my hunger. ![]()
And WALL-E also sounds like it will be great – a film for the
ages. I’m liking this “love story” concept a little more each day, come to think of it. I wonder what
happened to our Earth? Either global warming or us humans got so careless as to literally destroy the planet, I
expect…
Wow, I wonder what Earth will Earth will look like? Carnage?
Destruction? And is this Earth our Earth? I mean, it seems obvious, but if if it
was, this movie would be, like in the future. Pixar, or any animation company for that matter, hasn’t done many
things in the future. I’m thinking the buzz lightyear scene in TS2 is about the only thing in a Pixar that
might be from the future. I wonder how they will deal
with the cause of the Earth’s destruction. Global warming? Nuclear War? Will this film have a message that comes
along with it?
Questions, Questions…
Wow! Strong words from the
masters of animation! This picture is going to be awesome! ![]()
Gasduude- Hmm…Well, we must remember that at the end of the
day, this film is for all ages, so however the Earth has been destroyed, it can’t be something too depressing,
otherwise it might put a real downer on the entire film. Though, on the other hand, it will be a good way to
inform kids of what humans are doing to the world, and what might happen if we continue using up energy resources
and polluting the Earth in this way.
I don’t know, I don’t want the film to be
“preachy preachy preach” like Happy Feet… because it stops feeling like a movie and starts
feeling more like a global warming documentary on ABC… you know??
sure it’s educational… but
it’s boring . besides, it’ll date the movie too, science is always discovering new
things. a decade from now the threat could be global cooling, and when people look back on the movie
it’ll be like " Phhbbt, that so 06’ ish. "
Thanks for the great link

Sounds good. I hope that we get
“no sound in space”. There’s only two other feature films I know of that had extensive space scenes
free of sound effects- 2001: A Space Odyssey and Serenity (my all time favorite).
Lightning95- Good point! Well, since Pixar is
generally a stickler for details, hopefully they’ll pay attention to things like that.
Lightning95 - Most films
include sound in the space field to give the setting and overall feel of the production a little more
“pep” and excitement; however, I agree with you in that “no sound in space” would be a nice
option. It sure worked in “A Space Odyssey”, like you mentioned, with just classical backround music as
the score/effects. ![]()
I don’t know… 2001 : A Space Odyssy was kinda
…
dull.
and if it bored me then it will certainly bore little
ansty-in-the-pantsy kid’s… besides, there going to do something entirely different with space!!!

Pixar is going to reinvent space…
man. I’m so Pixar-Biased aren’t I? XD
2001 is a very cerebral movie.
It’s not action-adventure (Serenity, on the other hand, is). I think if you went back and watch those two
movies, you’d be amazed at how well the music flows and works with the space scenes. 2001 used well known
classical music (Kubrick said that no composer of the 20th Century could compare to the classics) and Serenity
featured a wonderful David Newman (cousin of Randy and Thomas’ brother) score (though they did kind of cheat by
bringing the big space battle down into the atmosphere). I think if you took any of the Star Wars space scenes
and cut out the engine sounds, you’d be surprised at how well it still works.
The film Armageddon made sci-fi fun, but was viewed as a generally very bad film because of it. I guess there
has to be a balance between the two.[/i]
I would agree with that. I think my favorite sci fi movies are action adventure on the
surface, but have enough underlying themes to allow them to stand the test of repeated viewings.
Just thought I’d like to let
you guys know about this…
Scroll down to the bottom of Jim’s article and read the third-to-last line:

Article[/url]
For those of you too lazy to go there, it says this:
Soo…you better run over to Mr. Hill’s
site tomorrow if you want to learn some more information about WALL-E!
The Good : the whole scale of this movie seems epic, and
this opens up all kinds of opurtunities for beautiful CG renderings, and the dialouge-less plot provides a
wealth of oppurtunity for “subtle” humour. And I’m liking the “Robots-In-Love” story more
and more. It’s a big kick-in-the-face to all those other animation companies out there, who are still stuck
on the whole “animal learns a lesson about family” thing. This outta set up the standard, which
means better animated movies ![]()
The Bad : The only problem I have
with the plot is the possibility of it being to “preachy” (something I have mentioned before). Now
I believe in keeping the earth clean and all that, but I don’t want messages of "KEEP OUR EARTH
CLEAN!!!" “WE’RE GONNA DIE OF GLOBLE WARMING!!” "WE’RE RUINING OUR PLANET!! WE’RE A
BUNCH OF GAS BURNING PIGS!!!" shoved down my throat every two seconds. To noticable of a message can
really date a movie. For example, any of you remember that movie “Armagedon”?? A giant astroid
(or was it a meteor??) hitting the earth and killing everyone. It may sound kind of far fetched now, but back
then it was a big deal.
unfortunatly, nowadays, it seems a little “90’s”. If you know what
I mean. 20 years from now people are going to be worried about something else, like global freezing or global
wettening. and I want Pixar movies to be timeless, and if they shove the message to much, it’ll be like
putting a huge date on the film.
So that's what I have to say about the movie, they have a
big oppurtunity to do something great, or something dated. either way, I’ll still go and see it ![]()
