SoA: True Lies is a great action flick! I watched it when I was younger and the most memorable scene for me was Jamie Lee Curtis’ “blind” strip tease for Arnie!
S330: Glad to hear that the doc said your bro’s okay!
LQstudiesPixar: Yes, I am. It’s an okay job, you gotta have (as my boss always says) “an eye for detail” and rely on the two Ls - Language and Logic - if you wanna be a great sub-editor.
It entails more duties and responsibilites than a simple spelling and grammar proofreader - we also have to check the reporters’ facts, query them on missing info, come up with headlines and photo captions, and as of my paper’s revamp, even do the layouts (which are usually the paginators’ jobs). Basically, it’s what the name implies, we’re subordinate to the Editor, who gets to call the shots.
But, technically, we are the first and last line of defence (sub-editors, artists and paginators are referred to as the “back-end”, reporters, copytasters and photographers are called the “front-end”). If any errors get through, everybody looks bad the next day. So we always have to second-guess ourselves and double, even triple-check everything. It’s a very demanding job, but I’m okay with it, even though I make mistakes often myself!
I also contribute articles and film reviews, but these are outside my working hours and I don’t get paid for 'em. You can see some examples on my Tumblr, which I’ve linked in my sig. ![]()
EJE: I’m glad to hear you’re taking on World History! The more you know.
Also, I’ve heard The Hero’s Journey countless times in different theory classes during my bachelor degree, haha.

Today was the best day of the week for me. But first, yesterday. I pitched my idea for Media Watch yesterday (psychological police drama The Following starring Kevin Bacon and Abalone Wars, a Deadliest Catch-style doco) to the entertainment editor and she gave it the okay.
One of my alternative ideas was the space-opera web series Bravest Warriors by Pendleton Ward, the creator of Adventure Time. When I said “Adventure Time”, her eyes lit up and she gushed that she loved it! I shamefully admitted that I only watched the short where Jake and whatshisname met Abe Lincoln, so she told me to go see it pronto. She even said I should make Bravest Warriors a lead and run it straight after my next one. But I first had to consult the writer who I will be swapping with.
So today I approached the writer and she was a bit hesitant, then she finally agreed! I’d be giving her a two-month break by doing two editions in a row anyway. And then my page layout went smoothly today. I had to sub this picture caption of this anti-austerity mural in Moita, Lisbon*:
So I gave it the headline: “Drawing Criticism”. Yeah, kinda corny, but that’s what I’m good at. My supervisor came over to my desk with the proof and told me that despite all the remarks he’s made about my competence, he always enjoys reading my pun-filled headlines.
Being a terrible comedian should be my calling! ![]()
Watching Dredd.
I know, I cry each time he sinks. Because I love Leonardo DiCaprio!!!He is so gorgeous.
Watched War Horse last night. It’s good, but not Oscar worthy material.
Maybe if you had watched it on the big screen maybe your experience would have improved.
I had an awesome time in the cinema every time I watched it, and I think it was way better than some other nominees (I watched them all).
Spirit: Oh, okay! Understood.
Well, that is very neat! I am actually going to be entering college this year. Not until I watch Monsters University this summer first, of course! ![]()
When I entered university, the last released Pixar film was the first Cars.
Well. Just found that, by legal definition, my co-authors are not co-authors of our book. ![]()
They had to write some of the book. I wrote about 98% percent of it with BANolan writing one segment into the story (which i rewrote for easy blending in).
Can’t tell you how stupid i feel.
S 330- Sorry, man
. Legal crap in the creative field is a nuisance. But you’re not stupid. The laws are just complicated and sometimes senseless.
Well, my Laptop is on my mind. I’m waiting for it to be fixed after it just gave out on me. Thank God, we were able to save all the content. Just waiting to have it back. Haven’t been on the Internet as much since it broke, though
.
Yeah. Thankfully, we’ll be properly co-authoring the second book. Until then the first book is going to be copyrighted to me and i’ll state mention they helped. And then republish and market it better than the first attempt.
And i know im not stupid. I just felt like i was which isn’t exactly the same thing as actually being stupid (and it isn’t the best feeling either). ![]()
Just made 1.25 litres of coffee, as I have no intention of going to bed tonight. Don’t ask why.
Our next logo will be from a very well known series of non fiction books.
I went for a walk in the snow this morning. I actually really enjoyed the walk because it doesn’t really snow here that often and it was nice to get out of the house for a little bit ![]()
I love the snow so much! ![]()
We just made a very lovely pirate-themed cake.
That is cool, I am just imagining it. ![]()
Woke up with a strep throat this morning. A nice way to start my weekend. ![]()
Watching Pitch Perfect.
Sitting here comparing Dreamworks to Pixar. After producing Shark Tale (Possibly my most hated film) Dreamworks is no match. Pixar to infinity and beyond!
Watched The Lorax. I think my favorite part was the ending…when it ended.
