I agree with a lot of the list, such as placing Bambi second, but I strongly disagree with having Mulan so low. Come on! Nobody has to like it as much as I do, but it’s not bottom-of-the-barrel quality.
Now I’m thinking I should do a Disney ranking post for my blog. Hmm…
I liked the concept of the list, but it lost its credibility to me when it named Hercules as a crappy film and below the likes of Chicken Little. Same goes with Mulan and a bunch more.
Then they started talking about the “weak” music of Hunchback and I had to close the page.
I think the general consensus is that Menken’s music for Hunchback is among his best work. Not a lot of head-bopping, catchy tunes, but hey, I’ve caught myself singing “Out There” and even “Hellfire” (does that make me weird?).
Oh, and that list inspired me to make my own rankings list on my blog. Gonna work on it this week.
The fundamental mistake of that type of list is that they assume that every film is better and worst than another.
A lot of films should share the same position, because they’re on the same level. Maybe what they should have done is giving them scores, so that many can end up with the same.
I did that when I ranked all Spielberg films in my old blog.
I began working on my rankings blog post today, and I did have quite a few times when I wanted to place movies on the same level. The only thing is that sooooo many Disney films could be a tie from my perspective, and that might make it confusing for readers. What I may do instead is have a countdown with an assigned number for each film, but also a rating that will put movies on very close levels.
