Wreck-It Ralph

I was going to be sad either way with one of them losing. I mostly wanted Wreck-It Ralph to win because Brave already won all of the other ones, and I feel bad that Disney did so well after struggling for so long that maybe they could have a win. I still love Brave though, although I’m annoyed that it seems only non-Cars Pixar films can win Academy Awards. :frowning: Oh well. If Monsters University doesn’t win, at least the Cars franchise won’t be alone. :unamused: By the way, I really love Brave (more or less AS MUCH as WIR…I think  ) and am proud of its achievements. ( <3 )

It comes out on March 5. I don’t want to over-anticipate you for it, but I really doubt you’ll be disappointed with this one. I always had a good feeling about it, and plot-wise, I think it’s one Disney’s most clever if not the most-clever of them all. Everything ties together so neatly, I think. It is very Toy Story-esque and even Cars-esque at times, but with a Disney feel that is strangely classic and up-to-date at the same time. I loved it. It was my kind of film, and I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, and I just think it’s a nice movie. My favorite CGI Disney film. And it’s got Paperman, which is amazing! P.S. The threat/villain is awesome!

Also, just for fun, I’m going to have a Disney marathon at my house watching every recent Disney film leading up to Wreck-It Ralph’s release. I’ll start with Meet the Robinsons on Feb. 28, and proceed with Bolt on March 1, and so on until Wreck-It Ralph comes out on March 5! I love doing that! I’ve done it with Pixar, but now I’m going to do it with Disney.

I’m sure I’ll love it!I’ll probably just buy it because I doubt I wouldn’t love it.

I wanted Wreck-It-Ralph to win, but I got a “gut feel” that Brave would win. The Academy has not been known to be very progressive in my opinion - like segregating animated films into a separate category despite nominating several for Best Picture, going for artsy independents instead of mainstream crowd-pleasers (with a few exceptions like Return Of The King and Titanic), et cetera.

So I intuitively felt they would pick a traditional princess tale by a critical darling over a videogame crossover from a once-great powerhouse. I have long been jaded by the Academy since the Slumdog sweep of 2008 (you can dig back through my past posts in that year to see my thoughts). So I psyched myself by thinking that if the Academy crowns Ralph, that would be great, but if they crown Brave, well, congrats to Pixar too.

The Academy may tell everyone what they think is the best film, but only you can decide for yourself which really deserves it.

Meanwhile, Ralph is destroying a jaw-breaker after losing the Oscar…

Awesome idea, LQ! I’ve done Pixar-athons in anticpation of release days before as well, but I haven’t yet done a Disney-athon of sorts! MTR and every film after it has made it into my favorite movies list (Although I haven’t seen Winnie The Pooh yet and need to do so so I can add that to the list as well, considering I’m a big ol’ Pooh fangirl), so that would be an awesome lineup!
And in response to EJE, the only reason I was a little surprised that Brave beat out WIR was because it seems that more people are hyped for WIR in comparison to Brave. But that’s just how it came off to me.

Anyway, I was rooting for either Brave or Ralph, so I’m happy with the Oscar results. Would’ve been awesome if Ralph won, though. I can’t wait to get it on DVD in about a week.

haha, oh you guys!

Last night on the Colbert Report, Stephen mentioned his disappointment saying “Wreck-it Ralph was robbed.”

Even Stephen relates to us!

This huge exaggeration of a clip comes to mind. Spoiler clip for those who haven’t seen the film: [spoil]Disney plays the part of Wreck-It Ralph, Pixar is Felix, and Gene and the Nicelanders are played by the Academy Award people. Oh yeah, and Namco plays Pac-Man. :unamused: :stuck_out_tongue: .[/spoil]

Looks like sooner or later, Disney’s gonna Wreck-It! :astonished:

Thank you by the way, OwP! I agree it’s fun to do, although it’s probably best with just a few films at a time. Trust me, I’ve tried to do all of 'em one per day before, but it only worked twice (10 and 11 films). That’s why I do some of the movies, one per day now before a new release, and I alternate which titles will be played. There will only be 6 in my new Disney one, but yeah, still fun. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, I’m fine with the Oscar results honestly; I love both movies, they were both deserving. Can’t wait to get this movie on DVD!

Bwahaha you guys crack me up*! Love the good-natured responses. Must also plan a “New Disney” marathon one day.

  • I must watch the Colbert episode by the way, got a link EJE? If not, no prob, I’ll google or youtube it.

Gee, Ralph… don’t take it so hard! :unamused:  8D

You won’t find it on youtube, Viacom is strict about this. All episodes are online, but I know it varies by country if you can actually watch it. But I’ll provide the link, and we’ll see!

Monster’s Inc. didn’t win Best Animated Feature- it went to Shrek. So if Monster’s University doesn’t win, that’ll be two Pixar franchises that didn’t get Oscars

Eh, I’m not too bothered by Wreck-it Ralph not winning. I’ve seen 4 of the nominees, and it was my least favourite. That’s not to say I didn’t like it- I thought some parts were well done, like [spoil]Turbo’s backstory[/spoil] and pretty much any scene with Felix and the Sergeant. I thought Ralph was a little dull, and Vanellope was a bit grating at times. But I still found their relationship enjoyable to watch. Like a lot of people, I kind of wish we’d gotten to see more game worlds but I suppose they could’ve been a bit self indulgent…

I know, that’s what I meant by the Cars franchise won’t be the only franchise to not win the academy award. I was talking about both movies, not just the prequel. But that’s alright. I don’t really care who wins to be honest. Come to think of it, that’s actually kind of likely to happen this year. I just like to enjoy the film for being a fun watch. :nerd:

Kenzie, I know Colbert does a lot of things in character. Does that particular clip project his real opinion, or is he being facetious. I watched it, and I’m confused.

That’s the thing about Colbert. But I’m certain he was being honest, you can tell when he is or not. His character is usually for satire. It was more of a side note he said while switching to the next topic. He does that sometimes when he wants to give an opinion.

Oh, okay. Because the whole Argo thing seemed hokey to me. Thanks!

yeah, that was in character. But the Ralph line his voice was different, and it was kind of just like a side remark. I doubt that it was written in the script or teleprompter, you can tell he said it differently, as an opinion.

Saw this last week with work friends! I think this was certainly my favourite film of the year! It had a lot of heart to it, was funny and had great characters. I’m actually someone who doesn’t play a lot of games but I loved it and the two others who were really into games loved it too.

How dare you say that about Ms Hathaway, Steven Col-burt! :imp: Although, that Jackman jibe was pretty funny… I gotta admit.

Thanks for sharing, EJE, it worked fine on my end! I had a feeling he was shooting the “Ralph was robbed” line out the side of his mouth as an ad-lib. And IV, the digs at Argo and Michelle Obama are satirical, from my understanding of the few eps of Colbert I’ve seen, he’s a liberal pretending to be a conservative.

It’s interesting to hear that you enjoyed it despite not playing many games, mentalguru. I think gamers will take away more of the in-jokes and references much like animation aficionados will have more to appreciate from Who Framed Roger Rabbit or biology students will get from Osmosis Jones. But that doesn’t mean that their stories aren’t universal enough to touch and entertain the average moviegoer.
