I was going to say something, but now I don’t want to because it will make people mad.
Yes, that’s the core of feminism. A lot of anti-feminists spew propaganda demonizing the movement, saying that women just want to take over and subdue men. Which isn’t true, we just want equal chances.
I agree with this. But I don’t label myself as a Feminist, because in my opinion, this should just be the norm. Equality. And I feel the term Feminist does not represent that fairly. Honestly, the word Feminist makes me angry and uncomfortable. Maybe I’m just an alien or something.
Badger, I was gonna pick parts of your post to quote, but then I realise I pretty much agree with all of it!

Haw haw! Chivalry is for suckers.
So some people are kicking a fuss over Psy’s new music video, Gentleman, in which his character plays pranks on women.
Boo hoo.
If a female artist did it, I bet no one would bet an eyelid. I’m delighted that he’s mischevious, not only towards the ladies, but a guy (he presses all the floors in the elevator they’re both riding while the latter desperately needs to use the loo) and a group of kids (he steals their football and kicks it away).
And he meets his match (quite literally, since he holds her hand and they run off together) when a woman pranks him back.
It seems some folks need to learn the meaning of irony and lighten up. ![]()
^I see what you meant TDIT. What I saw, the video wasn’t saying that it was okkay to treat people like that! It seemed to be an ironic video, and as we see near the end of the video, he gets karma!
I really hate it when people do something and expect you to not get angry at them.
Then when you do something similar back to them and they act like its the end of the world!
Oh yeah! And they’ll say “No offense” or “I’m sorry” before they say or do it. And it’s like, no you’re not sorry because it’s your opinion, don’t apologize for your opinion!
Yeah!! It’s just like, No! Your not sorry and you obviouslly want to offend me or you wouldn’t say it!
Also I’m self conscious enough as it is, one of my Bestfriends knows, they want me to stop. Yet then they always go off at me… It’s just like… Yeah cause that helps…
I’m over it!
Exactly! I just makes no sense, don’t apologize if you’re not sorry. I’m sorry to hear that your friend treats you like that.
Thankyou EJE It’s nice to know that there is lovely people in this world! ![]()
You know what annoys me? I don’t care if I’ve already mentioned this, but I hate how on IMDb you have a really popular mainstream film that’s been released in the past 10 years, that usually has a high user rating. However, if you go onto the “Best Reviews” section, you will see some positive reviews on Page 1. However, go onto Page 2 and onwards and you’ll see a bunch of 1-star reviews by complete snobs who say things like “overrated”, “don’t believe the hype” or “worst movie ever” and sometimes even question people who like it.
Now, I respect opinions and do believe some of these films are made out to be better than they are, but how do reviews like this get such high ratings yet the positive reviews always marked as unhelpful? And why are these reviewers so snobby by giving it a 1-star rating (4 or 5 star would be more reasonable) and sometimes proclaiming them to be the “worst”? Have they not seen films like Monster-a-Go-Go and Manos? Argh, it just annoys me so much, they ruin the enjoyment of the film for everyone else imo. Don’t believe me? Go onto review pages for any recently popular film like The Dark Knight Rises and Drive for example. I’m not saying these movies aren’t overrated (even though I haven’t seen them), but the constant 1-star reviews are just unfair.
I hate it when I overcook food like pizza. Today my chocolate chip pancakes were burnt on the outside and undercook on the inside, only the sides were done. Maybe I put too much chocolate chips in or it was too thick. I blame the pan though.
Okay, I just need to rant about phobias.
I hate it when people are so mean about other people’s fears. It doesn’t matter how people get them or how harmful or not harmful their fear is. Just shut up and deal with it, seriously!! I’m sick of the same old stuff people say to attempt to make you feel better. It never works. It never makes me feel better. It only makes me feel worse for having that phobia.
I get that a lot with my phobia of spiders. It’s always the same old stuff. “They won’t hurt you.” or “They’re more scared of you.” and that stuff. Never helps. I hate having to explain and justify something like that when it’s just how I honestly feel.
I can totally agree!
I used to be obssessive-compulsive as a teen and am still am, but to a lesser degree. So I can empathise with how you feel about phobias, Amy43, because it’s not as simple as just “blocking” out the fear or “cutting it out”.
One has to be exposed the fear gradually and overcome it on your own terms. Throwing one into the deep end might help, but most of the time it just traumatises the person.
And telling someone that he’s a coward, there’s nothing to be afraid of, etc doesn’t work. The most important thing is to empathise with the person and show him that you understand how he feels, and what can be done to make the person feel more comfortable.
I wish someone did that to/for me when I was younger. Coming to terms with my fears would’ve been so much easier and less painful.
People who try to pass themselves as “film fans”, “film buffs”, or however they want to be called, but who are actually phonies.
I hope I don’t count.
I have a lot of random knowledge about individual films, actors, as well as film making. But there are a lot of classic films that I have yet to see, such as Midnight Cowboy and The Graduate. I watch a lot of movies though. I should probably do that less, and exercise and socialize more. ![]()
Dustin Hoffman was in your mind ![]()
Actually, I think you are very knowledgeable on the matter!
Anyway, I’m not referring to people who don’t know about film in general, just those who brag that they do when it’s false.
There are plenty of those at my (now old) school. They go on and on about Dark Knight and Casino Royale, but you say Kubrick or Capra and their expressions are priceless.
Some times I just wonder if I’m a bad film fan because I can’t find The Jazz Singer to watch or because I know equally as much about some TV shows or more “silly” things.
I’ll tell you one thing that really annoys me the most: When my Dad constantly barges in, disturbs me, teases me, tells me stuff I don’t want to hear, annoys, records videos of me yelling at him with his cell phone, tells me I have to get off the computer and go to work because I’m 18 (I really just want to do graphics!), smacks me, slaps me, tries to beat me with a towel or rag, tries to beat be with a wooden spoon or frying pan, tries to give me a smooch (which is pretty much unwanted), and a bunch of other stuff he does that constantly grinds my gears!
What is the matter with him? Can’t he just leave me alone?! I don’t even like all the things he does to me because it’s so annoying what he does and it really makes me go raging mad!
Sorry, I shouldn’t have said “raging”…but now I am mad at him today for not picking up the phone when I tried to call him after graduation practice (he claims he doesn’t like to answer his phone during the day–UGH!), then he made me repeat myself (I don’t like to repeat myself!), then he wanted me to go hoarse, then he recorded a video of me screaming and yelling at him when I just wanted him to leave me alone!
And worst of all, Mom and Dad says I’m not allowed to have milk or ice cream, but it’s really my Dad’s fault that my behavior is horrible because of the way he treats me constantly! So this summer, I really need to find a way to change my fate. You know why? Because I feel like Merida right now!
Oh, and I do agree with some of you about those “Pixar haters” (as I would call them) being so ignorant either because they think DreamWorks is better or because they think they’re just kids’ movies. And Pixar probably does not like anyone who hates all their Pixar films! (That’s just a guess, by the way.)
And another thing: I hate it when people litter instead of waiting for the trash can! Can’t they just realize that littering is against the law, and that littering is not only harmful to wildlife but also disrespectful to people and their property?! These people really need to learn a thing or two about the proper way to recycle–one time, where my Grandma used to live (she’s at a rest home now), recycling had to be stopped for a while because people were abusing it by throwing trash into the recycle bins! Ugh!
Oh, and one more thing: What really also grinds my gears is the fact that people are harming backyard wildlife by wasting their money on unnecessary lawn chemicals that are also harmful to their kids! Come on, people! Can’t you just learn to be more eco-friendly by skipping lawn chemicals, and also leave the grassy fields un-mowed until the declining species of ground-nesting birds, such as meadowlarks and bobolinks, have completely fledged and left the nest? And those kinds of birds are declining because people are mowing the fields too early and are completely destroying the nests when the young have not yet fledged or learned to fly! For example, near my house is a bobolink nesting area called Byers Woods. But unfortunately, the nests are constantly in trouble because of unauthorized mowing practices.
It’s just: What is wrong with you people in today’s society?! Come on, people! Get a life!
And yet, there are many other things that really grinds my gears way too much!!!
