Your Friend the Rat

Ha! I think I just realized what they’ll be “teaching”…

[spoil]That rats can be viewed as sanitary, family, and loving critters against the nasty reputation that they don’t deserve.[/spoil]

Maaaybe… That’s just a wild guess, but I sure hope that it’s correct, in this case!

By the way, that first shot of Remy and Emile is the cutest screencap I’ve ever seen. My sister and I are gonna love this, man…

Thank you very much for the link, martini833!

You are welcome, Mitch!
I just wonder why this hasn’t showed up on Upcoming Pixar or JV Pixar News, I sent it to them.
I hate when my news gets rejected :[.

Mitch, that isn’t a bad guess.

No, it isn’t… I can’t think of something more appropriate for them to be teaching than that

Screen-shots!

Thanks so much. I am loving [spoil]the mix of 2D and 3D animation[/spoil]. I can’t wait to see this!

Your welcome. And yeah, it’s going to be great. :sunglasses:

I imagine it’s going to be a history of the rat-human relationship, not unlike the extra from Monsters Inc (narrated by Bud Luckey) explaining the history of the Monster-Human relationship. It’s cool they’re keeping the Creditouille style of animation, because It reminds me of the stylish look that some cartoons from the 1950’s had.

Update!

My sister and I recently watched a Disney Channel show entitled Hannah Montana – a production of which I am sure many of you have heard of, and during a commercial break, a 30-second to one-minute clip of the original Pixar Animation Studios short film, Your Friend the Rat, was shown during Disney’s “Really Short Report” insertion/show. For more information, please unveil the spoiler content below…

[spoil]The clip itself featured Remy vainly attempting to explain that “the truth” about rats must be known, whilst his baseball-bellied brother, Emile, chaotically put in his two cents worth about the matter, saying such things as, “Feed us…and we’ll leave you alone!”

Both 2-D and 3-D animation was displayed, the former being broadcast in a 50s style format reminiscent of the old cartoons of the day. The traditional animation footage shown included a young, petite little girl dancing around in a circle with an equally gleeful rat, a collage of people and rats standing in a group together, and an amusement park that was “ratty-oriented”.

Myself being a rather forgetful soul, my brain unfortunately ceases to remember how the little movie clip ended, though I think that Remy and Emile (in their regular, 3-D format) were the last to pass onto the screen.[/spoil]

Also, as some of you may have noticed from a previous screenshot or two, both characters’ designs (Remy and Emile; Remy especially) are slightly dissimilar to the ones shown in the official film, Ratatouille. In the Your Friend the Rat short production, Remy appears to be a little pudgier around the middle*, and Emile’s fur coloring is, perhaps, a little bit darker (I may be imagining the latter, however).

In any case, it looks as if it’s going to be a very cute and informative little film. I’m so pleased that Pixar has actually taken the time to explain to its audience that rats are loveable and joyful little creatures who (often/usually) crave to be with people. God bless their hearts! I love 'em for that.

Oh, and if any of you are wondering…the clip itself is not available for viewing on the official “Really Short Report” website. Too bad. I was hoping that it would be there so as you guys could view it! Oh well.

I agree. I practically skipped for joy when I realized that they integrated that medium into this particular short film. Just lovely.

*Truth be told, Remy looks more like Patton Oswalt in this format. No offense to the guy! :stuck_out_tongue:

Holy cow GD! Thanks for these! They look absolutely amazing!

Thanks for that, Mitch. The short film sounds really enjoyable. Too bad that clip is not available on the 'net. Oh well. I probably wouldn’t have noticed that Remy and Emile’s designs differed from the film. I wonder why they did that…

Mitch - Awesome! Looks like you were right. :sunglasses:

Mitch- It sounds really, really good! I still adore the idea of using that cool 2D animation. Thanks for telling us about it!

You are most welcome, guys!

Because they’re evil, and because they can… :stuck_out_tongue:

Gasduude - “I am…always right. Even when I’m wrong, I’m right.” - Franny from Meet the Robinsons

Haha. I’m just kidding. But yeah, it looks like it’s gonna be a “ratifyingly” educational featurette after all!

You guys. [spoiler]2D Peasant Linguini cartoonishly dying of the plague.

No, really.

No, really.[/spoiler]

This short just took a turn for the freakin’ awesome. Picturing it now. Heheheh. :smiling_imp:

C’mon Tuesday, get here faster!

Your Friend The Rat will make you beg for more traditional animation from Pixar. It’s 11 minutes of hilarious historical eye candy. If I didn’t need sleep, I’d continue to rewatch it. ;-p

~~=oP

I watched it first thing when I got home from the mall after I had bought the DVD this morning, and I thought it was great! I agree with PV all the way. I think i’d be great if we could see more traditional animation from Pixar

Really thought that Disney would be 2-D reponsible while Pixar made groundbreaking 3-D films…note I have NOT see Your Friend the Rat just yet, but I am sure it’s popularity is assured, and who knows, Pixar may, if it finishes it’s yearly film projects, can do side ones involving 2-D. I mean with how good they make 3-D films, how would Pixar’s first 2-D come out?

Your Friend the Rat is hilarious perfection!
