Pixar Pier Highlights

Disney Parks

Posted by Joanna • July 2, 2018

The new entirely Pixar-themed area of Disney California Adventure Park – Pixar Pier – enthusiastically opened its gates on June 23rd, and it’s got more than enough to offer to all the fellow Pixar fans out there.

First up – the attractions!

There are currently 3 attractions at Pixar Pier – The IncredicoasterToy Story Midway Mania, and the Pixar Pal-A-Round –  with more due to be added in 2019 (Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind and Jessie’s Critter Carousel). Toy Story Midway Mania makes you feel like you’ve shrunk down to the size of Woody and Buzz while you compete in a variety of target shooting games, while the Pixar Pal-A-Round Ferris Wheel lets you sit back, relax, and take in your surroundings and the wonderful views. If you’re looking for more of a thrill, there are swinging gondolas too!

The Incredicoaster is an Incredibles 2 themed rollercoaster, complete with Michael Giacchino’s iconic soundtrack. And this isn’t just the movie soundtrack – Giacchino arranged music specifically for the Incredicoaster, to play alongside a high-speed race to catch Jack-Jack. If you’re looking for an immersive experience, then look no further than this super-powered ride.

“People when they’re riding it…they’re gonna have an emotional connection right off the bat. They’re gonna feel like they’re really in the movie. And I think that they’re gonna walk away from this, humming the music and saying ‘we have to go and do that again’.” – Michael Giacchino

What else?

This isn’t anywhere near the extent of what Pixar Pier has to offer – there are all sorts of snacks taking inspiration from our favourite Pixar movies (a ‘Jack-Jack Cookie Num Num’, anyone?), including the Poultry Palace, which you may recognise from the Toy Story toon Small Fry.

“Some Nutrients – Many Preservatives”

There are also plenty of games (with prizes!) to try out – the La Luna themed one being my personal favourite. The WALL-E Space Race comes in as a close second though.

I love how the team who came up with concepts/designed/built Pixar Pier were clearly driven by creativity and a sense of fun. I think that’s why I feel the most excited about the Lamplight Lounge (and that’s why I saved it until last). The Lamplight Lounge is a ‘restaurant celebrating creativity’; its walls and ceilings are adorned with posters, concept art, promotional art and memorabilia from Pixar movies spanning all the way back to Toy Story.

Have you been lucky enough to visit the Pixar Pier yet? If so – please share your photos and experiences with us! What was your favourite part? Did you sample all the snacks? Let us know on Twitter.

Toy Story Land Opens June 30th

Disney Parks

Posted by Joanna • February 16, 2018

Toy Story Land is set to open at Walt Disney World on June 30th!

Pixar announced the news today with a familiar clip from the original Toy Story:

Have you ever wished you were able to walk amongst your favourite characters from the Toy Story universe and see the world from their perspective? In 3 and a half short months, you’ll be able to do just that at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There will be a multitude of Toy Story themed rides, games and snacks, including a Slinky Dog rollercoaster and alien swirling saucers.

You can tell a lot of creative thought has gone into the design of the surroundings as well as the rides.

This in addition to the Pixar Pier in development at Disneyland is great news for us Pixar fans – it’s about time more Pixar themed rides and attractions took pride of place!

Pixar Pier Plans Revealed!

Pixar

Posted by Joanna • November 2, 2017

The summer of 2018 marks an incredibly exciting time for Pixar fans, not only because of the highly-anticipated release of Incredibles 2, but also due to the opening of the ‘Pixar Pier’ at Disney California Adventure Park. Exciting plans for the Pixar themed attractions have just been revealed, and it looks like the transformation of what was originally the ‘Paradise Pier’ is going to be truly magical.

There are going to be four new ‘neighbourhoods’, each inspired by different Pixar universes.

The Incredicoaster © Disney Pixar

  1. The Incredicoaster

The Incredicoaster is (you guessed it!) based on the world of The Incredibles. Once built, the rollercoaster’s stylish and modern design, so characteristic of the movie, will look like it’s come right out of the big screen.

  1. Toy Story Mania

The possibilities for a Toy Story themed attraction seem infinite (and beyond!)

  1. Inside Out

We can’t wait to see how creative and fun the Inside Out inspired neighbourhood will belike, especially given that the movie literally has a location called ‘Imagination Land’ in it.

  1. All our favourites!

The fourth neighbourhood will include an array of many beloved Pixar characters. They’ll be featured on the Ferris wheel gondolas, games, and more!

In addition to the attractions, we’re also going to be treated to Pixar themed food and merchandise! The all-new Pixar Pier is set to open on April 13th.

Do you love Pixar? (Obviously) Do you love going to Disneyland and Disney World? (Duh!) Well, now’s the perfect opportunity to plan your next trip to California AND Florida because, drum roll, please…

  1. Pixar Fest is coming to Disneyland!
  2. Not only that, but a brand spanking new Pixar-themed area will be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios soon!

According to Oh My Disney, Pixar Fest will be coming to both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure beginning April 13th, 2018! That’s only five months away! Unfortunately the event will be for a limited time, but during April you will get to see both parks completely dedicated to the world of Pixar. The parks will include a new fireworks show, two new Pixar-themed parades, new merchandise, food and drinks, and more!

Thanks to Oh My Disney, here’s some of the cool things to look forward to at Pixar Fest:

“Together Forever—A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular”

The nighttime spectacular will feature a brand new fireworks display with Buzz Lightyear flying over Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. The main focus of the show, as the Together Forever title suggests, will be about the special bond between friends and celebrate the true meaning of friendship.

“Pixar Play Parade”

You guessed it, not only will Luxo the Lamp be in this Disneyland parade, but characters from films like Inside Out and Up will also make appearances.

“Paint the Night”

The Disney California Adventure parade will showcase characters from Monsters Inc., Toy Story, and Cars.

Pixar Shorts Film Festival

You can finally watch some of Pixar’s short films at the Sunset Showcase Theater in Disney California Adventure’s Hollywood Land.

Pixar Fest Charm Bracelet

Be sure to pick up one of the exclusive merchandise items that will be for sale, which includes Pixar-themed charm bracelets.

So 2018 is obviously going to be a great year for Pixar. Need any more proof? Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, Woody’s Lunch Box (an area that will be in the new Toy Story land section of the park) will be opening! Oh My Disney shared a first look of the area:

As the concept art depicts, Woody’s Lunch Box will feature a plethora of different toys from Andy’s collection, even showing off some of Andy’s lunch box items.

It will certainly be thrilling walking among some of the iconic Toy Story toys in Woody’s Lunch Box AND celebrating the studio with Pixar Fest – it’ll feel like we’re finally apart of the magic behind a Pixar film.
