Disney/Pixar gears up for the 84th Academy Awards with the newly unveiled Cars 2 "For Your Consideration" campaign.
Aiming for the Best Animated Feature Oscar, the initial advertisements feature ‘candid’ moments from the film. Cars 2 is notable for being the studio’s first feature with unpredictable chances at the nomination following four consecutive Pixar wins in the ‘Animated’ category.
It will be interesting to see whether Lightning and Mater can land a spot at the ceremony after the barrage of mixed reviews from earlier this year. The Best Original Song and Best Original Score categories seems like good bets on Pixar’s part. Oscar voters will probably be more friendly toward the Michael Giacchino-composed soundtrack than anything else.
The 84th Academy Awards, hosted by Billy Crystal (Mike Wazowski!), will be televised live on February 26, 2012. Nominations will be announced January 24, 2012.
What are Cars 2’s chances at the Oscars?

Being honest Cars 2 wasn’t all that great I’ll doubt it will win.
They shouldn’t spend money on advertising for that, the movie won’t win.
I’m a big Pixar fan and support them, but realistically, I’m sure there are other animated films that deserve to win over Cars 2. How did they even find quotes to support their cause? I mean, good for Pixar to try to win BAF at the Oscars, but those two quotes are not representative of the critical reviews as whole at all.
Hey you first two are trolls who lost hope for pixar
I think they have a great chance to at least get nominated! The animation is unbelievable, you can’t deny that.
Rango and Tin Tin are the only other films that can truly compete with the quality of Pixar.
Trolls really, I havn’t lose faith in Pixar I simply was just stating my thoughts on the matter. In my eyes Cars 2 wasn’t great and a large portion of people argee. But if you enjoyed Cars 2 thats just fine.
“Trolls?” Seriously?
I don’t think Cars 2 is going to win BAF, and I REALLY loved it. It’s just not that kind of film; it’s a fun popcorn movie, but not much about it is artsy or poignant.
Although, I think saying Disney shouldn’t bother with the ads is harsh. With 5 nominations this year, I think Cars 2 at the least deserves a nomination slot.
And don’t forget, this is for more than BAF, and if Collision of Worlds doesn’t get a best song nod, I’ll be flat out disappointed.

Cars 2 beat the first Cars by 100 million! Cars 2 made more money than Wall-e, Monsters Inc, etc. Overall it was a huge success beyond the elite critics and art snobs. Can’t wait to Carsland opening next year and I hope one day we will see a Cars 3!
Sorry, but the only good thing to come from Cars 2 is that Pixar has now made more profit to secure themselves to take a risk on GOOD films, not the safe-bet that would be a sequel (even then they will probably do more sequels.)
However, I don’t consider it a very good trade off because in years to come people will not remember how much money Cars 2 made. They’ll be scratching their heads wondering why it was even released.
I’m not an art snob or an elite critic – I just wanted to see a Pixar film. A good film. But that didn’t happen. Our standards were only that of what Pixar have been producing for years. So the model they have been following prior (story comes first, not money or outside pressure or making a movie for the sake of it.) So something went wrong with the making of Cars 2 in that the standard for other films, such as Newt which got canned, was not there for Cars 2 for various reasons.
Tin tin won’t win because motion-capture is not considered an animation category. This is because of mars needs moms.
I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if you knew where to buy a copy of the “For Consideration Ads” for Cars 2 (the one with the band in Italy)?
