Disney and Pixar Team Up With Discovery for Reign of the Dinosaurs!

News

Discovery Channel made an exciting, and somewhat surprising announcement in their 2010/2011 slate that will surely be of interest to Pixar fans!

‘Reign of the Dinosaurs’ is a new TV special produced by "top creative talent at Disney and Pixar" that is being described as a revolutionary, landmark event. ‘Dinosaurs’ (not to be confused with Disney’s Dinosaur) will be based on the latest paleontological research while promising to focus on strong storytelling, typical traits associated with the studio.

An excerpt from the show’s description follows:
"New creatures abound in a wondrous new world – giant dinos with Freddy Krueger style clawed hands, pygmy T-rex, frogs so big they can eat dinosaurs. Learn the latest in understanding of dinosaur behaviors with exotic mating dances, the inner workings of the T-rex’s nuclear family, dinosaurs drunk on fermenting fruit, dinosaurs in apocalyptic events, the underwater birthing of mosasaurs, and prehistory’s angriest mammals. "

Those are just some of the characters, err, dinosaurs that you’ll meet in the upcoming Pixar produced natural history documentary. But who’s behind it? Discovery/Disney/Pixar have stayed mum about the talent behind this project so far but I’m betting Greg Dykstra’s "Boy and his Dinosaur" concept might just have something to do with this. If that’s the case, then heading over here would serve as a nice little preview for ‘Reign of the Dinosaurs.’

When will you be able to experience "the benchmark for all future dinosaur… programming"? Although the special will fall into the margin of the 2010/2011 TV season, no specific dates have been announced. Definitely stay tuned!

I’ve always wanted to see a dinosaur project from Pixar! Are you excited for Reign of the Dinosaurs? Why or why not?
