The covers (as well as some more information) for the first installments in the Disney•Pixar Comics series from BOOM! Studios have been revealed!
The Incredibles comics will be released March 25, 2009 and will feature 4 collectible covers spelling out "INCREDIBLES" when connected. The official description follows:
"America’s favorite family of superheroes finally returns, courtesy of legendary scribe Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, The Flash)! The Incredibles face terrifying new villains…and friendly new neighbors, all while Mr. Incredible hides a troubling secret from his costumed clan. Four connecting cover variants by acclaimed artist Michael Avon Oeming!"
Written by Mark Waid with art by Marcio Takara.
Issue #1: Cover A/Cover B/Cover C/Cover D
Cars comics will be released simultaneously and will feature two covers. Both feature Lightning McQueen before the events of the original Cars. The official synopsis reveals his previous nickname:
"Cars fans, start your engines! Before the big Dinoco 400 race, rookie sensation Lightning McQueen is interviewed by Darrel Cartrip. Full of braggadocio, McQueen reveals his scrappy origins as “Bulldozer” McQueen—a local short track racer who dreams of the big time…and recklessly plows his way through the competition to get there!"
Written by Alan J. Porter with art by Albert Carreres.
Cover A/Cover B
The comics will be sold at $2.99 each and they both sound very interesting, we’ll see if BOOM! can capture the Pixar magic later this March.

UPDATE: BOOM! artist Marcio Takara has gotten permission to post a few panels from the upcoming The Incredibles comics. The story apparently involves mutant animals, I can’t wait to see how this connects to Mr. Incredibles’ mid-life crisis plot. The comics are looking really awesome, don’t you think?

I’m saving up my money for ‘em….
Thanks for the information, martini!
Heh, mutant animals… There is something so very Silver-Age of comics about that that I love. And I think this may be the first time I get all of a variant cover series.
