According to Box Office Mojo, Monsters, Inc. 2 has been pushed ‘forward’ two weeks from its originally announced date to:
November 2nd, 2012
This move is in direct response to Breaking Dawn Part II, the final Twilight film, which was recently set to debut on November 16th, 2012 — the same day that Pixar’s sequel was supposed to open. Much needed breathing room has now been restored!
Let’s be honest, as popular as Monsters, Inc. is/was, its sequel would have certainly suffered against the rabid Edward vs. Jacob fans. Although Twilight movies have big opening booms and then tend to flounder, Disney/Pixar is well aware that a non #1 opening for ‘Monsters’ is not worth risking.
And the world is at balance. Then again, a monster fight at the box-office could be interesting… Maybe not!
Observation: The original Monsters, Inc. was released on November 2nd, 2001 so the sequel will premiere exactly 11 years later!
Your thoughts?

I think you meant 2012, not 2010.
^^^ Sure did, thank you! ^^^
Disney should learn a thing or two with them regarding Tangled
I don’t want to sound stupid or anything, but this will be interesting because two factors will have to be taken in consideration.
A) The state of the economy by 2012, and
B) The 2012 US Presidential Election.
The economy, media coverage, and marketing promotion might play major roles in how successful this movie opens.
^^^ That’s not stupid at all. Really intelligent comment. Great observations! 🙂
Great idea…as long as Monsters, Inc. has two full marketable legs to push toward the big timers, like Finding Nemo and Up. I hope everyone is doing good at Pixar. I love ya.
Sincerely,
Helen Harris-Scott
I still find the idea of Monsters Inc. 2 coming out next year strange just in general. I mean, we don’t even know what the story is! I guess a bump is a good thing. I was worried about Breaking Dawn overshadowing it, but at least TS3 stood well against Eclipse this year.

I absolutely love how Monsters Inc. 2 is being released on the exact same date as the first one! It’s just another call back to the awesome original!
That’s also the same day that Dreamwork’s The Guardians comes out, so maybe they’re trying to compete with both
^^^ DreamWorks Animation’s The Guardians moved to the 21st of November — also in response to Twilight/MI2. 🙂
Much talk about the release… Who’s directing it?
@almightybong I asked someone who is working on the movie the same question, and here is the answer I received: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082971/quotes?qt0450553
Good. I’ll get to watch it before the end of the world. 😀
That is just so sweet to see MI2 is being released exactly 11 years after the original. My heart actually just melted. <3
But just sayin’, Twilight is really just copying Harry Potter. I read the entire series and let me tell you, Breaking Dawn was the worst book in the series. It was like, really bad. And I liked the other three. It in know way deserves two films. Money grobbin’ scoundrels.
Pixar is tre smart indeed.
