After an 11 year wait, the toys are back in town!
Yes, we’ve reached the official release of Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel, Toy Story 3! North American theatre goers and many international markets will also get to enjoy the 2D/3D fusion short, Day & Night.
As I write this, Toy Story 3 still holds a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Now onto the next step in Pixar’s perfect streak. It’s easy to tell that this Lee Unkrich directed gem will be a box-office success, but how big? Current expectations would make it a Pixar record breaker with over $100 million projected for the first three days! Fans like you and I can make the difference between a big hit and a HUGE blockbuster.
Limited midnight screenings have just begun across the country! In the afternoon, Toy Story 3 will have opened in over 4,000 theatres, with about 2,000 3D equipped screens and, for the first time in Pixar history, IMAX screens. I’m sure you guys will be filling those seats (as will I) sometime today.
Our (glowing) review was posted on Tuesday, but now it’s your turn to make your voice heard. Once you’re back from a Toy Story 3 screening, let us know what you thought in the comments.

Congratulations to Lee Unkrich and the entire Pixar team on this achievement! Post your reviews, predict box-office and note observations in the comments!

Seeing it tomorrow morning. CANNOT SLEEP.
just came back from el capitan theater and let me tell you, it was AMAZING!!!! I totally loved it!!! I think it’s the best pixar film :]
The back of my throat was hurtin’ and there was much audible crying in the IMAX theatre! What a great movie.
TOTALLY EPIC!
Words can’t express this movie just saw it tonight just amazing !! WOW i’m still just in a daze Toy story was my life as a kid it really inspired my love for drawing it was just WOW words can’t express it truly a masterpiece thank you Pixar my childhood is now complete ! = )
COMPLETELY AMAZING. I saw it yesterday, it wasn’t packed( because it was Thursday, and first show, but i think , it was 50% full). I almost cried( i want to, but because i am a boy and all that embrassment problem). 11/10
BTW, i feel a little bit scared in [SPOILER] ‘landfill sequence’ , absolutely toward the climax.
I saw Toy Story 3 and the short Night and Day last week at Pixar studios. It was great. I believe its the best Toy Story yet. I will be watching again today at the Imax.
I’ll hopefully be seeing it about 1:50 EST in 3-D with a friend. To think the movie has 111 reviews on Rottentomatoes and is still 100% is staggering. My hopes are for it to at least surpass TS1 (I always preferred TS2 to be honest). Regardless, I know I“ll love it.
Was there a Cars 2 trailer before it????
It’s sad
I live in france.
I won’t be seeing it 10 pm until tonight (insert high pitched excited squeel here) BUT—I’m hoping that this movie will be the Dark Knight of animated films and overthrow Shrek’s throne. If anything deserves to be the biggest animated movie ever, it’s this one.
In the meantime, I’ll be watching the first two to make sure I remember everything! Can’t wait to read all the reviews tomorrow!
No cars 2 trailer if you were wondering
movie is phenomenal… I give it both thumbs up!
Outstanding. This movie was intense and sucked me in until the very end. Absolutely phenomenal!
I’m gonna watch it tonight. can’t wait a minute longer!
I’m also hoping it surpasses Shrek 2 in terms of box office. But that doesn’t really matter. What matter is the 100% with 126 reviews on RT
I can’t even explain my love for this movie…I was in awe of how amazingly amazing it was….It even got a tear out of me (okay a lot of tears) But anyways… I just wanna say thanks for being a movie not about gimmicks but about really connecting with the audience… And i’ll definitely watch it again, and again, and again 🙂
TS3 was great! Some great humor. My kids FREAKED when they recognized Totoro in Bonnie’s room.
Dan and Night was brilliant. Just insane! Bravo Teddy Newton!
Just came back from an IMAX-screening in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Pixar pulled it off once again! Toy Story 3 is AWESOME!
I’m speechless. Words can’t describe how TS3 moved me.
I hate to bust your bubbles but TS3 just got Armond White’d. He simply is just a contrarian so people would click the link and go to his site. He gets money like this. DO NOT be tricked. His opinion doesn’t matter anyway as it is just some cheap trick to make a living. We do not need his opinion on anything, so again, DO NOT go to his site.
This is my very long review. Enjoy!
Hello! I just got back from Toy Story 3. I thought it was great, but was justthisshort of my infinity-and-beyond expectations. If you’ve been to a kids movie lately, you’ve seen the trailer for TS3; Andy goes to college, the toys end up at a day-care center, kids wreck the toys, and they have to get the heck out of there to get back to Andy. Oh, right, and there’s about two thousand new characters. With that in mind, this is my rather long review of Toy Story 3:
The Movie Itself
The first half was slow, almost boring, but being none other than the work of Pixar, it was still pretty good. While it did have a few jokes (and a killer opening sequence), I didn’t think the film was up to the first two- until the middle. Unfortunately, this is the part I cannot describe, due to possible spoilers. What I can tell you is that this part of the film is action-packed, heartwarming, and funny, which is everything a Pixar film should be. I’d love to tell you everything I loved about it, but you should go see it yourself.
The Animation
Pixar’s CGI is as amazing as ever, cartoonish while still looking very realistic. One example is the scene where Woody tries to escape in a bathroom. It may seem strange, but don’t worry- it gets stranger. The movie has a unique visual style that has not been seen in any other Pixar film- nope, not even the first two Toy Stories. Any frame from this movie can almost certainly make you smile. But again, the finale’s animation will blow your mind. Trust me.
The Voices
This will likely be the shortest section, because it goes without saying that the cast of ANY Pixar movie, let alone the Toy Story movies, is a great cast. TS3 takes this statement higher, adding Michael Keaton and Whoopi Goldberg
in addition to so many othersto the ever-increasing list of characters. That’s not to say that the original guys aren’t great. In fact, Tim Allen- having a lot to work with, from speaking in Spanish to- well, just being Buzz- does such an amazing job, as does Tom Hanks, voicing the loyal cowboy Woody. The Writing
Now this is the only problem I had with this movie. As always, the story is very well thought out, but the film was low on witty jokes. Again, a lot of funny moments, but there was only one or two moments (both in the second half) that I knew I would be laughing at years from now. In Up, there was “Squirrel!” In The Incredibles, there was “Don’t Wear a Cape!” Heck, in the original Toy Story, there was “To Infinity and Beyond!” But the fact that I can’t quote much of it is beside the point. Michael Arndt, who wrote Little Miss Sunshine, and had not worked on a Pixar film before, wrote the screenplay. Sometimes this was a great thing- the finale gets darker than most Pixar films have gone. But you would not hear “I don’t think those are Lincoln Logs,” in any other of Pixar’s movies.
Conclusion:
Overall, Toy Story 3, while low on witty jokes and not having an amazing first half, still comes together at the end for another Pixar classic.
Scale: 8/10

I had a lot of fun, but I think the weakest of all their TS flicks. To me TS2 is literally a perfect movie, so it was hard to beat that. TS3 is to Jedi as TS2 is to Empire. =)
But good review UpcomingPixar dudes, I read it a little bit ago.
When I went to the theater today (OPENING DAY WOOT WOOT!), I was really excited. Day and Night was great. The audience loved it. Although many characters that didn’t have big roles in the previous installments didn’t return, the new ones made up for that. Unfortunately for me, the 3D effect wasn’t the best. It was blurry, I had to squint my eyes, and I think its because my eye sight isn’t as good as it used to be. Don’t worry though, things pop out good enough. I felt that this had more emotion than Toy Story 1 and 2 combined and that’s fine. Oh yeah, stay until the end because there is a surprise………………………………..
Score
10/10
5 stars
10000000/10
Go see it, you won’t regret it. Trust me.
What a movie. I really feel it has a good chance at winning the Oscar for best picture. Best Pixar movie to date.
Hey, writing from Colombia here, just arrived from watching the TS3 movie in 2D (shame yeah) and it was freaking awesome, I loved it, I laughed, I cried, I felt so related in so many ways, and the people in the theater were cheering up, everybody (at least for my perspective) loved it, and can’t wait to go and see in in 3D!!
Cheers for pixar for letting me be in touch with my inner child!
Oops, now Toy Story 3 holds 99% on the Tomatometer.
Alright, I hope this isn’t TOO long— someone posted a long review earlier so I hope this is ok. ^^;
First off, something about watching my childhood’s characters come alive on the screen again in a new story, with new animation and in a new crowd… just wow, there’s really nothing to express that feeling. You feel sentimental, nostalgic, excited and scared. Right off the bat I will inform you that the Pixar short behind it, Day & Night, absolutely rocked. Especially in 3-D, it was like… these 2-D characters were windows into a real world. Trippy, and of course accompanied by a Michael Giacchino score (complete with Incredibles-style trumpets!).
Anyway, it begins with a fantasy-esque sequence in the Old West, with Evil Doctor Porkchop raiding the sky and of course, Buzz and Woody saving the day. Reminds me a lot of the original planned opening for the first Toy Story movie, which was to look more “convincing” like this scene in ‘3’. This ends up being one of Andy’s childhood playtimes, with the movie beginning with home videos of Andy and his family. What got to me right from the get-go, besides the fact that I was really watching Toy Story 3, was Bo Peep’s fate and Woody’s gentle reaction to it. That killed me, but in a very powerful way. Though it doesn’t feel like Toy Story without her…
Anyway, after a series of events, the toys are mistaken for junk and thrown into a trash bag. They find a way to escape and get in the Daycare Donations box, which goes straight to a seemingly happy place called… Sunnyside. Everything is glad and well there, so it seems, but then the movie takes a turn for the sinister. And to me, maybe a little TOO sinister. The toys find themselves in all sorts of perilous situations, but there is plenty of comedy to go around— most of which seems to be from Ken. The most potent of these darker scenes was the landfill bit, with the toys about to meet their smoldering fate, and they simply hold hands bracing themselves. PERFECT animation in getting in all the slight gestures and facial expressions. Surprisingly, the film seems to balance the more comedic elements with the emotional parts in a way that feels natural. You’ll realize you’re sobbing when just 8 minutes ago you were laughing hysterically. Pixar knows how to do it…
Lotso’s backstory will make you shed a tear. Very similar to Jessie’s scene in the second movie, just not accompanied by music and there’s a new spin on it too: He was replaced. The way this reaches the movie’s climax works wonderfully. His fate is pretty satisfying, as it isn’t especially cruel but not very pleasant either…
The movie just ends perfectly. There was no better way to do it. The toys return home with Andy just about done packing for college, and he sees the box full of his toys — despite making a cynical remark earlier in the movie, he still treasures and respects them not just as “old toys”, and decides to drive down to Bonnie’s house to hand down all the toys to her. Bonnie is a little girl we see earlier in the movie who plays with Woody after she finds him stuck in a tree (after a pretty dizziating flight if you see it in 3-D!) This little girl is adorable and she just seems like the perfect kid to hand down the Toy Story legacy to, not without a sad farewell and Andy personally introducing all his toys to her, just like he’s a kid again. This got to me pretty bad.
One of my main criticisms with ‘3’ are that the new characters deserved more screen time. Aside from Lotso, Big Baby and Ken, we don’t see enough of these guys and they seem really interesting. Like how ‘2’ introduced the Roundup Gang, I think we could’ve had some new good guys that could tag along and become important parts of the plot. I also feel that it lacks some of that joie de vivre that made the earlier movies, especially the first one, such a joy to watch… but I guess as this is the ‘final chapter’ it’s good they wanted to go the extra mile in making this an emotional film.
tl;dr, it was incredible. Everyone do themselves a favor and see this movie! —Leirin
What was there to not like about TS3? Yes, it seems like a little edgier with the lincon logs and the ascot joke, but thats what humor is now. But this movie was so great at ending an incredible series with a bang. How ever does Pixar gets these logical but insane storylines is quite incredible. And most of all, how can they make us actually cry for a totally unreaslitic thing. Smart people at Pixar. I thought this is the best of all, cause at least for me, I love TS so nothing can ever beat it at least for me. 10/10
Yeah while the movie was great really great the wit was not there it felt like it went by to fast does anybody know what I mean like the first 2 felt longer maybe it was more talking between the toys I can’t put my finger on it but still a fanatasic movie !
I understand what the latest anonymous means, there wasn’t much conversing in this one— it was more focused on the action/breakout scenes and less on the individual character relationships (though they are still developed quite nicely). —Leirin
“Toy Story 3” was a great, entertaining movie. Lots of action and suspense. Highly recommended to all.
I agree with Ebert’s review that in terms of emotion and character development it is slightly behind the first two films. My personal favorite remains “Toy Story 2” (great humor and more dialog in there!).
Andrew
Toy Story 3 was amazing. I absolutely loved it. I was very emotional, especially at the end. I found myself close to tears, as close as I was during Up. And it was so funny! 🙂
Though not my favorite Pixar film, right now it’s tied with Toy Story 2 for my favorite Toy Story movie, but after my second viewing this week I’ll really know where it is on my list of favorites.
I want to complain about the violent and sex driven gambling promo playing before Toy Story 3. I think its called Night and Day and has to violent cartoon men punch each other in the face, Then look at a blond woman sexually in a bikini and then it promotes Las Vegas gambling and improper touching. Who the blank decided to play this to my 4 year old?????
