Two Producers Guild Award Nominations for Jonas Rivera and Up!

Awards News

Nominations for the 2010 Producers Guild Awards were announced today and Jonas Rivera, Pete Docter’s parallel on Up, was listed for two prestigious honors!

Rivera is among top producers representing such films as Avatar, District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, Invictus, Precious, Star Trek, and Up in the Air, each vying for their field’s top prize in feature-length motion pictures. It is of important note that Up is the first animated film to be nominated in this category, making for truly exciting competition!

Pixar’s 10th feature was also listed in the animated feature category, up against 9, Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and The Princess and the Frog.

Here’s the official nominations breakdown:
Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year in Theatrical Motion Pictures:
Jonas Rivera — Up
PGA Producer of the Year in Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures:
Jonas Rivera — Up

Whether or not Rivera wins the aforementioned awards, Pixar won’t be going home empty handed. As you may remember from an earlier announcement, John Lasseter will be presented with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures for his life long work in the industry.

However, victories in the other two categories would be fantastic because PGA Awards are especially good predictors for what’s to come at the Oscars. It almost seems like a no-brainer that Up will go home with the animation award since Pete Docter’s latest is the first and only animated film to land the Producers Guild‘s equivalent to AMPAS‘s top prize. Anyway, you should also check out the documentary/TV movie nominations and the previously announced TV noms.

The 21st Annual Producer’s Guild Awards will be presented on January 24th, 2010 at the Hollywood Paladium. Congratulations to Jonas Rivera and the rest of the Up team on these nominations!
