Upcoming Pixar Reviews Toy Story 3 on Blu-ray!

Blu-Ray News Toy Story 3

Remember opening your toy box as a child? You know what’s inside, but you’re still eager to see what new adventures can come of your collection.

That’s exactly how I felt with Toy Story 3 on Blu-ray in hand. Chances are, you’ve seen the movie, so I won’t go there with this review. But you’re probably looking forward to hearing about the special goodies hidden inside.

I will admit the release seems a bit lopsided. Disc One only includes the movie (without Cine-Explore), Day & Night and a minimal selection of features. On the other hand, the second disc is packed to the brim with outstanding content!

I guess it makes sense, if you want to see the movie without any interruptions or temptations, the main disc is your way to go. With that said, you won’t want to miss new installments of staples like "Paths to Pixar" and "Studio Stories."

One of the biggest standouts has to be "Life of a Shot" with Darla K. Anderson. I have never seen anything like it! The opening scene is broken down in real time by the people who worked on it, from story to final lighting… and beyond! You really have to see it to believe it.

Screenwriter Michael Arndt also did a fantastic job in "Setting A Story in Motion." Essentially, it’s a basic lesson in storytelling, but you’d be surprised how much you’ll learn from it. Elements from Toy Story, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles are used to illustrate a specific formula.

"Beyond the Toybox: An Alternative Commentary Track" has got to be one of the most generous additions. After you’ve heard Lee Unkrich and Darla K. Anderson’s thoughts on the movie (via Cine-Explore commentary track), I think fans will really enjoy what some of the other talent has to say.

Rounding out the release are fantastic features like, "Bonnie’s Playtime: A Story Roundtable", "Roundin’ Up A Western Opening", "Goodbye Andy", "Accidental Toymakers" and "The Gang’s All Here" — all a ton of fun. There’s a lot more to discover, and as with any Pixar Blu-ray, the sound is fantastic and the colors are as vivid as they get.

This release is a combo pack, so the two Blu-ray discs included are accompanied by a DVD and a Digital Copy. To learn more about alternative packaging or to see a full set of features, click here.
