ComingSoon.net reports that Disney has set a date for a new unannounced Pixar film, titled simply Up. It is set for a June 12, 2009 release date.
This clears up some speculation as to Pixar’s 2009 film. Currently the order after Ratatouille is set to be…
- WALL-E (Andrew Stanton)
- Up (Brenda Chapman/Gary Rydstrom/Pete Doctor?)
- Toy Story 3 (Lee Unkrich)
- John Carter of Mars (Pete Doctor?)
If Pixar are anywhere as tight-lipped about this project as they are about WALL-E, then we will probably not find out anything about it till mid next year when it’s teaser trailer is attached with WALL-E. That is of course no-one spills the beans to Jim Hill like they did with WALL-E.
The title is extremely vague. It coud be about anything. Birds? Space? What do you commonly associate with the word up? That would be the best bet to finding out what it is about. Let us know your opinion by leaving a comment below. I’m very intrigued. Thanks goes to Alex and Anonymous for pointing this out.
UPDATE: AWN hears that this is supposedly Pete Doctor’s next project.
UPDATE 2: film ick purports that Pete Doctor is directing, Ronnie Del Carmen is working in story and the lead character is an adult male.
Disney/Pixar could be keeping tight-lipped about this. With rumors flying around now (like Cars 2), could it possibly be a cover title, like “Blue Harvest” was for “Return of the Jedi,” to keep the real film a secret?
You’re clearly not the only one who is intrigued. I think everyone is rather curious, if not a little speculative, about this “Up” and running project. (Sorry for the pun….)
Personally, I think jarakmaldon is on to something…as far as “cover titles” go. That may be the film’s true name, or it may just be a flake — a cloak of some sort.
And if “Up” is, indeed, the real name of the film, I wonder what it implies? As was previously stated, it could mean anything. Personally, I hope it has something to do with airplanes, but there’s no guarantee of that, that’s for sure.
We’ll just have to wait and see!
Excelent point about Codenames. Now I’m getting excited just saying this, but “Up” could be a codename associated with super heroes “Up” in the sky. Could this be “The Incredibles 2”?
I don’t think they would make another space movie so soon after WALL-E. But who knows. Movies based on past short films could be a great posibility.
For The Birds The movie
Lifted The Movie
That would be cool. Your thoughts?
Maybe it’s a full length feature of “Lifted.” As in “Lifted Up.”
On a completely unrelated note, I know it’ll never happen, but I would LOVE to see Pixar do an animated cartoony Spider-Man movie.
Code name for Incredible 2, perhaps. That would be very cool. It could have something to do with aviation, or birds. For some reason, I thought about hot air balloons, and then my mind wandered to the Hindenburg. The possibilities are endless, and so is the speculation. Great fun!
well, Pixar wouldn’t do an Incredibles 2 without Brad Bird helming.
Up is such a vauge name.
It could be about
a family of clouds…
A kids who who creates
a flying device…
(a family of clouds… [short laugh])
Maybe prehistoric flight? An Aztec flying machine?
So much speculation – all ‘Up’ in the air!
‘Up’ mightn’t be literally speaking – it could mean grades or stocks being up. (?)
The term ‘up’ only means ‘above the surface’. It could mean relatively…
Or, as JarakMaldon said, it might just be a code. Only time will tell! 🙂
I doubt it will be a sequel to The Incredibles or a SciFi movie. They won’t do The Incredibles 2 without Brad and the movie right before this one is scifi. My money is on birds trying to fly or something
Yeah, but what will Bird be working on ???
Not on the list apparently …..
Hmmm.
I hope Up is about angels! I think Pixar would make heaven and angel wings look simply gorgeous! 😀
THE WORD IS JUST IN “UP” REFERS TO A FAMILY OF WORMS TRYING TO GET TO THE SURFACE OF A FARM!
it’s almost sure (IMHO ^_^) that’s about an aviator (hope human , not human-like)
