Home Media Magazine reports on Disney DVD sales dropping 9% since last year. The article, which can be read on page 6 and 24 here, quotes Tom Staggs, Senior Executive VP and CFO, in the Q1 FY08 Conference Call.
Disney DVD Sales Down 9%
Staggs says the decline was due to tough comparisons with last year, when the quarter included DVD sales of Cars, Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest and The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition. Staggs also mentioned that this quarter only had the domestic release and limited international release of Ratatouille on DVD, compared to Cars which included worldwide sales.
Thanks Brendon.

it’s because no commentary on the Ratatouille DVD.

Their Special Features are not Special anymore… Not like the Monsters INC and the ones before were.
Serves them right for their treatment of Pixar’s latest DVD releases!
For me, I have purchased every Pixar movie on DVD up until Cars. I love all the Pixar movies, but am very disappointed in the lack of 2 Disc edition with the wealth of special features that the previous movies had. If they release 2 Disc editions, I will purchase.
Also keep in mind that new formats are coming out. Specially with the release of PS3 and Xbox360, that just starts a whole movement to next gernation formats.
