The following headlines probably deserve their own posts, but when the Pixar news pipeline becomes severely backed up, this is what has to be done. Welcome to the latest installment of Woody’s News Round-Up!
• Reporters Fly in for Aviator Mater: During the press conference at Pixar Canada’s grand opening last Tuesday, Creative Director Dylan Brown confided in a small group of reporters with art from a "top secret" project. When he finally revealed the piece, reporters ignored Brown’s pleas and their camera flashes started to go off!
The Pixar team seemingly shrugged it off, essentially allowing for the upcoming Cars Toon to be revealed. The short, tentatively titled Aviator Mater, has been hinted at before, but this is the first concept art (click to view larger) from the upcoming aerial tall tale to be publicly revealed. Understandably, Brown stayed mum about any plot specifics. [via Straight]
• Not Your Average Movie Based VG: The exciting trailer for Toy Story 3: The Video Game was recently released online! I can’t go into detail about the latest Pixar interactive experience, but I can say that I had a lot of fun playing it at the studio and meeting the developers from Disney.
It’s really not like any other Pixar game — or movie based game for that matter — those rarely seem to live up to the source. But TS3’s game isn’t solely aiming to mirror the movie, it actually creates an extremely enjoyable open world in what’s being called Toy Box mode. Pre-order the game here (in stores June 15th, 2010 on all major platforms) and enjoy new box art up top. Come see what I’m talking about over at The Guardian!
• Pixarian "Webinar" + Win Signed TS3 Posters from Animation Mentor: Pixar animators and Animation Mentor instructors Victor Navone and Aaron Hartline want you to know that they’re hosting a web seminar on April 29th! If you’re an aspiring animator, you’ll definitely want to register for Thursday’s live chat which starts at 7 PM PST.
Everyone else might want to take advantage of the exciting contest they’ve set up which closes on the day of the "webinar". By following Animation
Mentor on Twitter and the instructions at this page, you could win a signed Toy Story 3 poster! Good luck everyone and hey Victor! [via hannahmation]
This should satisfy your Pixar cravings for a little while. Enjoy!
Please share your thoughts on the stories. Are you excited to see Aviator Mater; is TS3: The Video Game appealing to you; will you enter AM’s contest?
Cool news! I’m particularly looking forward to the “Toy Story 3” game. As you stated, this particular Pixar film-to-game adaption looks to be almost completely different than the others, both in style and in playability. The world seems a lot more vast, and that “Toy Box” mode looks awesome!
Thanks for the news!
