I know Pixar did.
Thanks to the US holiday, Toy Story 3 is now well on its way to becoming Pixar’s highest grossing film of all time! Also due to the break, Monday’s (excellent) numbers will not be included in this week’s coverage.

Notes and Predictions: Toy Story 3 is holding up very well, surpassing The Last Airbender (for the number two spot) in its first week of release. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse currently dominates, as expected. Tuesday through Thursday should see around $15 million dollars in revenue, but I’m really wondering how the upcoming weekend will play out.
International: Pixar’s 11th seems to be doing quite well overseas, adding an estimated $31.4 million over the weekend. As of last Sunday, Toy Story 3 stands at $165.7 million for a worldwide total of $439.8 million.

Reviewers said that Despicable Me is great for children. With no doubt, DM will rule this weekend. But, i hope, TS3 still do that great.
$US250 million in Japan. I’m not kidding.
My hate for Twilight was magnified this Thursday. At least 3’s hanging on to number two. Come on! Stay Strong!
Right, i always had a felling that TS3 will do bigger than any studio ghibli’s movies did.
Rememeber, Pixar’ movies always did very well in japan, Finding Nemo got $120 millions in that country. $200 mil. in Japan, $1 bil. worldwide.

I think Toy Story 3’s success in Japan is not very accurate because Totoro is in it. I know you will say Totoro did not even talk, but he is so BIG in Japan now (the merchandise is still selling!) that people are bound to see it just to see any glimpse of Totoro.
Well, Up got $55 mil.in japan, with no tortoro in it, and had 7 months gap from US release.
while, TS3 only got 1 month gap, and had great story, and also had tortoro in it.
Hmmm… sounds like I’ll be focusing on international numbers a bit more. You guys seem pretty interested. Can’t wait to see your predictions come true in Japan. 🙂

This news is before TS and TS2 in 3D in theaters in Japan starting Feb. 6th, before the TS3 Legos hit stores, and before Totoro sightings in front of Alice. For the first time ever, all the movie theaters in my city will have to use half of their screens to honor all those presales, which are on the third wave. The second wave of presales, I think 10,000 tickets, got sold in five days because they were cool looking. Scroll down to the bottom.

Don’t look for the first weekend sales for TS3 in Japan, which starts tomorrow, but from July 20th when summer starts in Japan.
There’s bad news for me. For the first time too, I’m not able to watch TS3 in English nor subtitled in English because of the huge demand for the Japanese. The movie theaters have limited time to show TS3 this summer, I think. I’ve asked for an explaination from Walt Disney Japan. I haven’t gotten a reply, I’m taking a hit for the team.
