UPDATE: This was another elaborate April Fools joke that fooled a lot of people too. This one even fooled Moriaty at AICN and the guys over at /Film as well as a few other little blogs etc. I think the thing about this one that fooled people was the amount of things in it that could have been fact. As we know Brad said he is directing a live-action film, Mark Fergus was scripting it at one stage when it was at Paramount, Disney/Pixar were trying to aquire the rights to it etc. Anyway, APRIL FOOLS!
As the first news post after the aquisition of Upcoming Pixar by The Walt Disney Company, I have been given the green light to announce Pixar’s 2009 project.
Pixar will delve into the area of VFX and live action with Brad Bird creating his first live-action feature length film, from the John Carter of Mars series. Pixar will provide the visual effects for the film with Brad Bird directing and Mark Fergus will co-direct and write the script. Bob Peterson, the voice of Roz from Monster’s Inc. will co-produce with John Walker (producer of The Incredibles) and John Lasseter will executively produce.
That’s all the information I have right now, but more will be revealed in the coming months.

Loved both of your posts today. Well done. 😉
this is kind of surprising, but they were eventually gonna venture into other mediums, they might as well start now.
i think they’ll be able to pull off some good movie-making
Now THAT’s the way to make fun during this day. 😉
OK, is this another April Fools Day prank?
How ironic would it be if Pixar did actually end up doing JCOM?
Good one!
I must have got a dozen emails about this on Sunday.
Gee if, in some alternate universe, it became true who do you think would play Mr. Carter?
“Disney/Pixar were trying to aquire the rights to it etc. “
Why do say ‘were’ as far as us Mars fans who have been following us know – they have. If you know other wise ? The Pixar sites I’ve been cruising have been making a lot assumtions they haven’t – and Fergus’ recent interview indicates they have. As far as we know, it’s Andrew Stanton project, and under Angry films as well as Disney.
