Okay, the above video isn’t strictly about Pixar, but it deserves John Lasseter’s attention, as well as fans of Pixar’s and animation. I thought I could get this video some attention if I posted it here.
The above animation is by 13-year-old Anna Dittman. According to Cult of Mac, Anna created this animation of herself twirling in a long dress.
Anna drew each and every frame by hand with pencil and paper: 114 seperate drawings. “I got cheap paper because it’s a lot of paper,” she said.
Of course, she got a little bit of help. First Anna made a movie of herself twirling and played it back on the computer. She traced several key frames on the monitor. The remaining she drew freehand. (Nothing the old masters didn’t do: Hockney’s camera obscura)
Her elder sister Caroline scanned the drawings into the computer and imported them into Windows Movie Maker. All in all, a couple of evenings’ work.
says CoM.
Disney/Pixar could hire her in as little as 8 years. A great amount of time to practice her amazing talent.
Digg this video so it can gain some well deserved attention! Well done Anna!

She shout try getting into CalArts. I hate to say it, but if she stays motivated, she could really kick ass one day….i just hope she won’t be unfriendly competition…
Wow — what a talented artist. ‘Potential’ is the word of the day here. If she decides to pursue a career in animation, she would definitely be a winner in that field.
not to say that isn’t impressive of a 13 year old, but tracing video isn’t all that hard.
The fact that she even thought of it and did all this is wonderful, but if you think about it anyone can trace.
And yes, it’s been done since the begining of film, its called ‘rotoscoping.’
She will become much better as an artist by studying human movement frame by frame, and will eventually be an amazing animator, but rotoscoping is really nothing to show off – like i said, anyone can trace. Once she learns from what shes done here – she’ll be amazing, and THATS the stuff she should show off, THATS the stuff that will make her a child prodigy of animation.
