The Academy has made public a list of ten films as they inch closer on the road to Best Animated Short.
Earlier this month, we got to a preview of 33 films, including Pixar’s Day & Night, that could possibly land the category. Here are the lucky ten that did, in fact, capture a preliminary spot:
• The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger — Bill Plympton
• Coyote Falls — Matthew O’Callaghan
• Day & Night — Teddy Newton
• The Gruffalo — Jakob Schuh and Max Lang
• Let’s Pollute — Geefwee Boedoe
• The Lost Thing — Shaun Tan and Andrew Ruhemann
• Madagascar, Carnet de Voyage — Bastien Dubois
• Sensology —Michel Gagne
• The Silence Beneath the Bark — Joanna Lurie
• Urs — Moritz Mayerhoffer
Notice any familiar names? Other than Teddy Newton, a couple of the directors above are also well known Pixarians!
Nominations are set to be announced on January 25, 2011. The 83rd Annual Academy Award ceremony will be presented on February 27, 2011.

Now I don’t know who to root for, Shaun Tan or Day & Night!
Day & Night. The Lost Thing is cute as a book, but as a film, it’s just not very good. But it’s FAR better than this awful little film called sensology. Saw it a bit ago, and it’s just boring. Day & Night is far and away the best of these films, even if the ending is a bit overdone.
