Details about Pixar’s upcoming studio have been on the down low since its surprise announcement back in May.
Dubbed Pixar Canada (logo to the right), the new production facility will release short films based on Pixar’s "legacy franchises" like Toy Story and Cars. The Vancouver, BC satellite, headed by Ratatouille supervising animator Dylan Brown, has just started hiring and will reportedly launch next fall! But besides the names of a few other execs, that’s all we’ve got so far…
Brown, now known as Creative Director of Pixar Canada, took the stage for Vancouver Film School staff and students as an introduction to the new studio for potential employees. We’re still pending details on exactly what he had to say but for now you can see pictures from the event on VFS’s Flickr. I’m sure we’ll get some exciting information on the future of Pixar short films starring your favorite established characters soon enough. Stay tuned for updates!
Here’s looking forward to the unique productions possibilities this expansion to the world of Pixar will offer! What do you think?

I just hope this doesn’t end up like Disney’ Toon Studios… churning out crap content based their parent company just to make a quick buck.
I am a bit concerned at this satellite studio. It reminded me of the time when Toy Story 2 was in early development, and that crew was a separate crew in a separate place, doing their own thing. And of course, we know how that turned out, and they decided to bring everyone together.
Please keep in mind that this upcoming studio is dedicated to producing shorts based on established characters. All feature film production will stay in Emeryville. Pixar Canada will be a lot of help to the folks in California to get more new content on DVD, TV and theme parks. 😉
Like Disney, ILM (Lucas’ company), and Dreamworks, Pixar will be outsourcing work more and more. Canada is the first step. Disney outsources to India, so that would be the next logical step. ILM outsources to Singapore, and has for a number of years.
All those who bitch about outsourcing.
How is Disney get to sell their movies in India.
Do you think India will open its market to you
just because you ask. get over your self.
If you think it was ok to have slave labor to
compete against Indian farmers 200 years
ago was fair. Then why are you crying now.
Woot! 😀 This is sweet! It’s finally coming to Canada and I also can’t believe I live near there!
It’s too bad, that I’m still a high-school student and I’m not graduating for a few more years, I really wanted to be part of Pixar’s Canada story crew… 🙁
Nice logo, though! Can’t wait to see what Pixar Canada’s short films look like! 🙂
