This is no April Fool’s joke… I think. In fact, this is great news!
Besides Up, one of my favorite animated films last year was Henry Selick’s Coraline. If you’ve seen it, you know that the stop-motion animated fantasy based on a best selling novel was masterfully adapted and hauntingly satisfying. So how cool is it that Selick is making his new home at Disney/Pixar?
Variety reported yesterday that the Nightmare Before Christmas director left his new-ish stint at Laika to return to his roots at the Mouse house. Although he’s setting up shop at Pixar, his films will be made in stop-motion and presumably won’t be under the Lamp’s brand. The deal was struck recently after days of visiting the studio — who knows, maybe he’ll be the next Brad Bird, in a sense
Great news, we’ll see what kind of ideas come out of this Disney/Pixar/Selick deal. The developing story can be found here.

Good to hear. Laika is going to rue the day they let the gentleman who set up their studio and made things happen get away.
And Laika is severely struggling, financially, with recent layoffs and many more to come. They can’t seem to sell any of their projects.
Henry Selick is an amazingly talented artist, as can be most recently seen by CORALINE. Hooray for Pixar and JL for bringing him on board.
LAIKA staff is working on their next film Paranorman. We wish them the best as they have a tough act to follow.
I can’t wait for his first pixar film… and in stop-mo too. This is AMAZING news!
