After the maximum four years in office, AMPAS (Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences) president Sid Ganis has been replaced by Tom Sherak, elevated from treasurer.
Sherak wasn’t the only person to get a promotion when the election took place last night. Of course we’re here to talk about Pixar’s own John Lasseter being named secretary of the organization! Prior to this, Lasseter was also the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch governor — a postition he’s held for quite some time. Also of note, Tom Hanks was elected first Vice President of AMPAS.
I think it’s very exciting to have the voice of Woody and Pixar’s creative leader in such high ranking positions in this prestigious organization. Hopefully they can keep adding their touch to the Oscars.
Congratulations to all the newly elected and re-elected officials, you can see them here.
