The LA Times has a lovely article on John Lasseter and Randy Newman.
The article talks about how they both grew up in South California, but from totally different worlds. How John’s father owned a Chevy dealership and Randy spent his days watching his 3 uncles (Uncle Alfred won 9 Oscars) conduct orchestra’s on Hollywood sound stages. It also looks at the songwriting and the importance of the score behind all of John’s films.
It really is an interesting read, so be sure to check it out!

Newman back for TS3? Definitely
Spunds nice … too bad I can’t read the article .
That is just awesome. Lasseter and Newman have a great director-composer link that is oh so important in film-making. Inspiring! 😀
All of the Newman gang do such great work. My all time favorite movie, “Serenity”, featured a David Newman score. I believe Thomas did the Nemo soundtrack and Randy has of course done most of the other Pixar films. He’s really defined that Pixar soundtrack style of whimsy, emotion, and adventure. Good stuff.
