Lee Unkrich On the Look of Toy Story 3

Lee Unkrich News Toy Story Toy Story 2 Toy Story 3

Hit Fix‘s Motion Captured blog just posted their interview with Lee Unkrich from Comic-Con, it’s the typical Toy Story chat, but one question caught my eye.

It’s one I’ve been wondering about for quite a while. How will the visual style of Toy Story change, if at all, for Toy Story 3? The director of the highly anticipated sequel noted that since Pixar has come such a long way since the original "Story" when it comes to technical and talent concerns, he can’t waste those efforts. Instead, he’ll use them subtly. For example, in Toy Story 2 they used depth of field which wasn’t available during Toy Story. He added that each character was remodeled for this installment meaning that they’re even more intricate and have more controls than ever before!

Unkrich wants to make it clear though: "[I] want the world to feel familiar." So basically it’ll look like good ol’ Toy Story, but the graphics and other technical elements will be bumped way up. They even have Bob Pauley, the original production designer, on board for this one too! One related question remains: how will the humans improve — subtly or in a complete 360?

You can read the full interview here with much more insight from Unkrich himself!
