Just as Avatar overtook Titanic to become the highest grossing film of all time, maybe it’s the year that Toy Story 3 overcomes the almighty Best Picture…
As unlikely as it may seem to some, Toy Story 3 has the chance to join Pixar’s 10th in becoming only the second CG animated Best Picture Oscar nominee, and maybe Pixar’s first winner. At this point, what really matters is that Toy Story 3 lands in the category to begin with!
The ad seen in this post is part of a series, "Not Since… [Insert Best Picture Winner Here]." It originally appeared in the December 13th issue of Variety. Other examples have been posted on the blog, referencing Best Picture winners such as Lord of the Rings and Shakespeare in Love.
Hold on tight guys, nominations will be announced on January 25, 2011. The stars come out on February 27, 2011 for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards!
Predictions?

Sadly, it’s not going to win. It will definitely be nominated, but it won’t win Best Picture. The Social Network will most likely win.
Btw, Beauty and the Beast didn’t win Best Picture, it was only nominated.
You’re right, wow, my bad. That was a big slip. 😛
Multiple generations of families have seen and thoroughly enjoyed Toy Story 3. I think they probably liked it as much as I did. Best picture I saw in 2010.
As much as it deserves to win and the fact that it is, in my opinion, the best film of the year. TS3 in all likeliness won’t win, there’s too much bias in the Academy, alas I think The Social Network will win.
Heh heh… got chills seeing that picture. Wonder when they’ll put up the poster of “Not Since the Godfather Part II” with Lotso on the Web…
It’ll get nominated for Best Picture, but I agree, I’m afraid that the biased Academy fat cats and big wigs won’t let an animated film win. The Social Network has a good chance of winning… but seriously, Toy Story 3 has 100% on RT if it wasn’t for that non-comformist Armound White! Social Network has something in the 90’s, not a perfect 100/99. Not to mention it made a billion at the box office – Social Network isn’t on the top ten – and the aforementioned universal acclaim.
Toy Story 3 deserves to win, but the Academy is too thickheaded to recognize that an animated film dominated 2010.
Of course it will be nominated, but I think it won’t win. We’ve got The Social Network and on top of that Inception, which will defenitely win. On IMDB for example, Toy Story was the second best movie, Inception the best movie.
Although I as a major Pixarfan sicerely hope Toy Story wins, I think Anonymous (^) is right: the big guys won’t ever bring out an animated picture as a winner. And you’ve got to admit: Inception is darn good.
