For a little less than a decade now, Pixar has been trying to expand the studio in their 21-acre campus.
The reason being is that since the production pipeline is getting more and more busy, Pixar has to hire more employees, thus they need more space at the studios. To address this, they have made a decision to expand the campus, and the floor plans/site plans for a new facility and parking area have been made available through the City of Emeryville, California. You can see them in this post by The Pixar Blog.
The new building, which will contain a small theatre and work spaces among other things, will be a total of 155,194 square feet and will occupy the space where there is currently a soccer field that will be moved to the immediate right. The expanded parking lot, which will replace the brown unused plot of land, will add 304 new parking spaces bringing it to a grand total of 836. The building should finalize construction by April 2011.
Great news for the folks at Pixar!

Sounds great! You Misspelled “Expansion”
Oops! Sorry, fixed now! 🙂
How interesting. They should construct a 2D unit while they’re at it…. =P
Quote from the article in “The Pixar Blog”:
“Several trees will also be removed, but will be replanted elsewhere.”
Ha-ha. That’s nice. Good for them. Sometimes trees are simply discarded of when expansions are made.
Thank you for the wonderful bout of information, martini!
