For a lot of people, this would have to be the most exciting news of this year. IESB.net chatted to John Lasseter and Ed Catmull briefly at the world premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
So if you happen to be a sci-fi geek and have the two top people from Pixar coming up to you for a couple quick questions during the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, what would you ask them? All about John Carter of Mars of course!
says IESB.net
Ed and John wouldn’t give up much information on the subject, however, Ed said that it will be different to other films Pixar has done as it is based on the book. He also said they had only just started working on it as they just aquired the rights. John only said “You know what, it’s going great! But I can’t really talk much about it.”
And on Brad Bird doing 1906…
When the IESB visited Pixar a few months back, we confirmed with Bird that his next movie would indeed be live action but it would not be John Carter, it’s 1906, based on the novel written by James Dalessandro about the San Francisco quake. He told us he was currently in negotiations.

P.S. Kinda sad and lonely without Pixar Planet, isn’t it? I don’t know how I’m gonna survive….
Mitch – You and me both. I’m missing good ol’ Pixar Planet already!
Cool! I was kind of confused as to whether Pixar was going to do JCOM or 1906, but now they are doing both! Any release years yet for either films? I just want to know if there will be a movie between Wall.E and Toy Story 3…
PS I’m having serious withdrawal symptoms with PP Forums being down. Anyone know when it’ll be back up?
– Rachel.
Anonymous, keep checking back every day. Dash said when worst comes to first, they will be back on june 1st at the latest. But like I said, check back every day.
Quick question if anyone knows the answer. After doing research I’ve only been able to find that Bird is “in talks” for 1906. Now I don’t doubt he’s doing it but does this mean he’s in talks with another production company to do it or is he in talks to get the rights to it from WB or is it something totally different. I just want to make sure this is both a Brad Bird AND a Pixar film.
As a quick update on Pixar Planet though, we’ve found a new host, in the mean time we’re working to set up over there. It’s a slow process on their end and will likely be a few more days but most likely will also be before the first of June. I miss it as much as you guys do – believe me.
Anonymous 1 – 1906 will probably come out in 2009, and JCOM will probablt come out in 2011.
BTW: Does anybody know if JCOM is CGI?
The live action/CGI thing has been a question all along on this project ( at least since it went to Pixar ) there has been talk of live, but I think they’re still figuring it out. – Jeff the Barsoom fanatic.
I always assumed that JCOM would be a live action film, but for now…we can only speculate really.
Bill and Rachel – Tell me about it. I’ve been spending so much time on deviantArt trying to satisfy my hunger for Pixar Planet. (snigger)
Dash – Oh, hallelujah. I’m glad you guys found a new host! I look forward to the reappearance of Pixar Planet.
Here ye, Here ye.
I have just started a Pixar Planet page on Wikipedia and seriously need help from all of you to add and change as much as you possibly can of it before it gets deleted.
Thanks.
I’m very excited about John Carter of Mars. From what I understand, it’s planned as a franchise. I admit that I love a good franchise and this should be a fun, action- adventure series with a little sci-fi.
Oh great, I’m having problems viewing the videos. All it does is keep loading….
