By now all of you should have heard of Pixar’s RenderMan®. 
If you think it has only been used in Pixar movies you are completly wrong. Pixar’s RenderMan® was used in 41 of the last 44 films nominated for a Best Visual Effects Oscar® by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences. Almost any film that has CG in it, they most likely used RenderMan®.
