Ultimate Disney has obtained preliminary cover art for the Cars DVD and an intended release date they also obtained is November 7th.
Unfortunately that is the only size they recieved but it looks very colourful. Can’t wait for more.

So does this mean you’ll put up another countdown, Luxo Jr.? Great looking cover art.
It does mean that I will put another countdown. But I think I will wait till the date is confirmed.
To be totally honest, I think the DVD cover version here looks a bit *too* colorful. I’ve always been impressed with Pixar’s subtle yet classy DVD covers, but this one here seems a bit too crowded. I am sure it will have a few revisions, though. IMO, they should just paste the release poster on the cover of the box (the one with all the cars in the town).
Off topic there… but Ebert & Roeper have decided to name the upcoming motion-capture flick “Monster House” their Best Animated Feature Oscar frontrunner. Rather shocking turn, I think. However, the Academy didn’t care enough about the last motion-capture flick, “Polar Express” to even nominate it, and Ebert loved that one to pieces too.
Also off topic: I don’t know if you saw that (and sorry if you already did), but there’s a synopsis on the official webpage of Ratatouille, and it confirms that Jan Pinkava is still co-directing this movie (which is great).
Again, sorry if this was already known.
Hhmm…
I’m not to sure about this cover. Seems a bit wierd, but sort of cool. I expected a red cover just like the soundtrack. What is that thing in the upper righthand corner?? Can anybody tell?
just3d : I think it’s Sally and Lightning McQueen from behind.
Oh yes, now that November 7th is the date, we NEED a new Countdown!
And the cover is a little busy, but hey, I’m sure it’ll be great.
My main hope now is a confirmation on the Bonuses, as well as one DVD with both formats: Wide & Full Screen. Always loved PIXAR for doing both in one release, and I was a tad dissapointed to see The Incredibles released separately.
Thanks for pointing that out Archibald!
Phoenician: As soon as there is another source confirming this date, I will add the counter. I don’t really want to add one then see the time change not long after.
Ewww.. I was hoping for something a bit more definitive and stylish. And simpler..
Again, off topic. I’ve heard numerous times that Cars is Pixar’s first film without human context. But didn’t A Bug’s Life also have no human context? Somebody please confirm this…
Emm . . . no human contact, yes that’s true, but half the scenes would be impossible in A Bug’s Life if NO humans existed!
Imagine the city scenes if there was no human garbage, or imagine the ‘Harry don’t look at the light!” scene, and how could there be the Pizza Planet Truck and Mobile Home in a world of JUST bugs and birds?
Cars is the first movie where there are NO humans PERIOD, where the Cars completely replace the role of Humans. Hope that helps, Bill.
Thanks Archibald.
