It’s semi-official folks, Ratatouille has passed the $200 million domestic mark and is still raking it in internationally when it is still yet to open in a few of its major marks. I only say semi-official as it’s currently an estimate. Here are the numbers…
Domestic: | $200,726,000 | 53.8% |
+ Foreign: | $172,349,000 | 46.2% |
|
||
= Worldwide: | $373,075,000 |

I can see Ratatouille gaining a total box office of that not dissimilar to Cars. What are your thoughts?
I’m not sure about that. The recent box office income has been very low. I think the final tally will be around $210M and will be the least spectacular pixar movie ever, boxoffice-wise.
I has, however, captured my heart and will remain as one of my favorite movie all time. 🙂
@Herman
I’m not so sure about “the least spectacular pixar movie ever, boxoffice-wise” statement – two Pixar movies actually made lower BO numbers (A Bug’s Life – $162,8 millions and Toy Story $191,8 millions) domestically and Overseas BO is not even close to final result, because Rats didn’t even open yet on many potentially profitable markets like Germany,UK,Italy, Poland and a half of others European countries and Australia) so it may even pass Cars worldwide BO results – not that bad 🙂
I Believe Ratatouille would have done better in box-office had it been released in November or October.
Disney-Pixar made a mistake by releasing Ratatouille in the middle of Big budget Threequels and Action Flicks
Anyway it was a great movie
The IMDB shows the gross as
$199,064,945

“I can see Ratatouille gaining a total box office of that not dissimilar to Cars.”
If you’re talking about the domestic gross with that comment, then I disagree. Ratatouille is currently over 38 million behind behind what Cars was at this point last year. However, if you mean worldwide, then I completely agree. My guess is that Ratatouille will gross more worldwide than Cars did.
It’s only beginning to show in my country. Maybe I should just get the DVD instead.
Yeah, I bet it’s just as good on DVD as it is on a 30 ft. screen.
Go see it in a theater. Then if you like it THEN buy it on DVD.
As far as worldwide box office (domestic + foreign), Ratatouille will easily beat Cars. You’ve just got to compare both films’ box office in the foreign countries where Ratatouille has already opened: Rat’s overall box-office average has been 2/3 better than Cars (doubling Cars B.O. in Japan, South Korea and Russia, and tripling in France). Even if you disregard France as a fluke (given the Parisian theme), Rat still beats Cars by 1/3. If the trend holds (and there’s no reason to believe it won’t), based on Cars’ performance, it seems safe to suppose that Rat’s earnings, in Germany, Italy, Australia & UK alone, would add up to at least another $100 million (not considering other countries where it still hasn’t opened, or still is running strong), which added to the current foreign B.O. sums up to $272,3 million. So worldwide box office should be at the very least: R$ 201,1 million (domestic) + R$ 272,3 million (foreign) = R$ 472,4 million (worldwide), which is R$ 10 million more than Cars worldwide B.O.
yes i can see Ratatouille being favorable for alot of countries than Cars. Passing it surely. Especially Europe 🙂 Its very kind of the folks at Pixar and Brad Bird to have made this film even though it didn’t earn as much domestically in the states and maybe knowing ahead that it wouldn’t.
