Around July 1 this year, Ratatouille had just opened in the US and had grossed around $47.2 million.
"What a horrible, horrible disappointment," said Fred Pessimisto, a major financial industry guy. "What can you buy with $47 million these days? Diddly and squat, that’s what. They need to just pull this clunker out of theaters and make room for something that can do the job."
says DisneyLies. Oh, how the analysts couldn’t have been more wrong. They were so very terribly wrong, I bet they are all kicking themselves right now. It gives me great pleasure to bring this piece news to you.
"Ratatouille" continued to feast at the international box office, cooking up its fifth straight weekend victory with $14.5 million at 4,381 playdates in 29 markets.
reports Variety. It has now grossed $371.8 million in the non-US box office and $577 million worldwide. Can it earn $55 million more to surpass the worldwide box office of The Incredibles? I hope so!
I didn’t really read the “analyst’s” name and it was only when reading the complete referenced July post that I got the joke …
I always hate how movies are valued by their first 3 days. It’s like trying to judge a new-born baby’s potential just hours after being born.
Though I think Ratatouille is doing better overseas, given it’s subject matter, which maybe seemed a bit too ‘hoity-toity’ for American audiences.
I just hate how Dreamworks is pushing ‘Shrek the Third’s’ big 3-day B.O. tally. It gained that mainly on the fact that people knew the brand. So far, of the films I saw this year, I went into ‘Ratatouille’ with as little knowledge as possible (suffered burnout last year when I over-exposed myself to ‘Cars’ and it’s marketing campaign), and walked out realizing that the negativity that I had heard towards it was largely fluff.
Wow, you scared me there for a sec. But only for a sec 😉

Haha. I love it when critics jump to false pretences only to have their backside kicked by the very thing they bit in the neck later on…. (snigger)
Thanks for the news, luxo jr.!

i went to that “disneylies” blog post! it’s really funny :P!
What a jerky analyst! I agree with the anonymous person’s comment (it’s the second one).
