Mark VandeWettering, a technical director at Pixar, posts some highlights from the Ratatouille wrap party on Saturday at the Masonic auditorium in San Francisco.
Some of the highlights from the highlights include Lifted and the teaser for WALL-E being played, a featurette about how motion capture was used in Ratatouille (I don’t know about you but I want to know more!) and speeches from the John Lasseter, Ed Catmull and Steve Jobs.
And this highlight isn’t from the party itself, rather the next day…
Bumping into a tired looking Brad Bird in the lobby the next morning. Initially, he just walked by as I said hi, but then stopped, tapped me on the shoulder, and shook my hand and thanked me. Brad: you’re the best.
I think this is a prime example of the kind of atmosphere and friendliness that occurs at Pixar.

The motion capture featurette was an hysterically funny joke. No motion capture was actually used.
(anonymous at Pixar).
Well, I wasn’t really going to spoil the joke by saying more, but the featurette is funny precisely because Pixar doesn’t use motion capture, and takes some pride in that fact.
Stick around to the very end of the Ratatouille credits, and you’ll see what I mean.
