Just when you thought Disney/Pixar had finished rolling out its complete For Your Consideration campaign…
Toy Story 3‘s Oscar push continues with the ad to the right, emulating a scene from Midnight Cowboy. It’s a fine addition to the "Not Since…" series, but there’s much more to the campaign than nabbing Best Picture.
As evidence by the ad below, the studio is also hoping for another historic nomination. Believe it or not, the helmer of an animated film has never won, let alone been nominated for, an Oscar in the Best Director category. Who knows, maybe that could change this year.
It’s clear to audiences and critics that Lee Unkrich hit it out of the ballpark with the third installment in the ‘Toy’ series. But will that be enough to overcome a seemingly insurmountable prejudice in the Academy?
You decide!

those look insanely good
A few random ideas (I’ve seen 79 of the 82 Best Picture winners thus far so I felt compelled to give suggestions):
– Not since Casablanca: Scene with Buzz and Jessie
– Not since West Side Story: Scene with Buzz and Jessie dancing
– Not since One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest: Mr. Tortilla Head (perhaps the scene with the bird)
– Not since A Beautiful Mind: Scene with Woody explaining his escape plan
– Not since Crash: Any scene with crashing vehicles, etc. (the train wreck at the beginning, for example)
– Not since Ordinary People: A shot containing multiple human characters
These are just a few I thought of 🙂
