Promotion for this Sunday’s Golden Globes is pouring in like crazy, but in this media frenzy we must not forget tonight’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards!
Surely the CCMAs will dominate Pixar fan’s minds until the very end in anticipation for Best Picture. That’s because Up has been nominated for this year’s top prize! Pixar’s 10th film is also up for exciting categories ranging from the super-competitive Best Animated Feature to the prestigious Original Screenplay and Score mentions. Make sure to watch the show tonight at 9:00 PM ET on VH1 and read through my last post on the subject to see Up’s direct competition.
[Winners announced, my thoughts below. Up wins/nominations listed as well.]
Here’s something fun to do, you can vote for your favorite film in each category over at VH1’s official site. Unfortunately, the poll is only for the purpose of illustrating public opinion and does not count (or reflect) in the official results. Let’s hope for the best, or should I say "Best" at tonight’s awards.
As for the real winners, look out below! We’ll be updating live as Up’s categories are announced. When (and if) Pete Docter’s latest wins an award the "Nominated" title will change to "Winner":
Winner: :: Best Animated Feature — Up ::
Pete Docter’s acceptance speech was delightful! Thanked Bob Peterson, Jonas Rivera, Michael Giacchino, Bob Iger and the Up crew.
Winner: :: Best Score — Up — Michael Giacchino ::
Part of a montage of assorted awards.
Nominated: Best Original Screenplay — Up — Pete Docter, Bob Peterson
Inglorious Basterds wins the award. Up gets a huge title card.
Nominated: Best Picture — Up
The Hurt Locker wins. Magnificent Best Picture montage precedes.
Best Picture: The Hurt Locker
Congratulations to Pete Docter, Bob Peterson, Michael Giacchino and the rest of the Up team on the nominations and wins. Congratulations to all the winners (Go Pixar!!) as well!
The 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are presented by the Broadcast Film Critic’s Association. Don’t miss the live telecast tonight starting at 9:00 PM ET on VH1. Check out all of the nominees (and eventually winners) here and get ready for some tough competition!
My thoughts: This is a supplement to what was written above from after the ceremony wrapped. I’m glad to say that Up won two awards at the CCMAs! Although Up didn’t go home with Best Picture, the nomination is a landmark. This year’s Best Animated Feature category was also tougher than ever with exellent ‘toons like Fantastic Mr. Fox, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, The Princess and the Frog and Coraline! Glad to see Up go home with that one!! Michael Giachino once again is recognized for his great taste in music.
Discuss your thoughts on the winners, nominations and moments from the awards in the comments section.

I just voted for “Up” in all the categories it’s nominated in. Go Pixar!!
Now that’s what I’m talking about! Good to see animation get some real respect this year!
Waitwaitwait — wasn’t Beauty and the Beast the last animated flick to get a Best Picture nom? In any case, this is monumental, especially considering there was such big competition this time.
Speaking of Princess and the Frog, martini, do you think you might do a review of it for this blog, like how you reviewed Ponyo earlier in the year? 😉 —Leirin
Leirin- Beauty and the Beast (first and only best picture Acad nom) was an Oscar nomination, this is the Critics’ Choice.
I meant to review Princess (which I loved!!) but got caught up with other things. Maybe I’ll review it when it’s out on Blu-ray for relevancy’s sake.
