Disney•Pixar’s 10th film, Up, directed by Pete Docter, appears to have had its release date pushed forward by 14 days. Up was originally scheduled for June 12, 2009 but is now set for May 29, 2009 as reported by Box Office Mojo and ComingSoon.net.
Up Now Set for May 29, 2009
This means the movie will open on the weekend directly after the U.S. Memorial Day holiday on the Monday. Thanks to Bill in the Pixar Planet Forums.

Hey, thanks for mentioning me. I was actually, to be completely honest, a little surprised by the push forward. The last Pixar film to have a release date in May was Finding Nemo on May 30, 2003 , and I somehow came to believe that Pixar would release all it’s feature films starting with Cars (June 9, 2006) in June. Now, don’t ask me why I came to that conclusion, because I don’t know myself. Considering that they announced that they’d release their films in the summer months, and the release dates since Cars have all been in June (with Up no longer counting because of the date change) , I guess I just randomly thought that and stuck with that assumption. But, the two late May releases (Finding Nemo , Up) count as summer releases I guess. And it also hints at not only late May and June releases, I think, but also possibly July and August releases in the future as well.
They must be making good progress on Up to bring it forward.
I am quite certain this has nothing to do with progress. I’m quite certain Pixar will have it before then, even on the June 7 release date, the pressure it seems will be on Disney to get all the prints out in time to the cinema’s. And also, Disney want to cash in on the Memorial Day weekend profits in the US. Remember, POTC:AWE opened on the Memorial Day in the US and it had a great opening weekend, profits wise.
Yeah, actually that does make more sense. 🙂
