Up Takes Two at BAFTA Awards!

Awards News

You’ve probably noticed that the last few posts on the blog have been all about awards, awards and more awards. So, who am I to break this fantastic streak?

That’s why my latest post features even more Pixar wins! This evening Up was honored in the 2010 Orange British Academy Film Awards AKA the BAFTA Awards! Pete Docter’s latest took home two statuettes (out of four nominations) which you can see below:

Animated Feature: Up – Pete Docter

Music: Up – Michael Giacchino

If you click on the links above, you’ll skip to the winner’s (tough) competition in that particular category. You’ll also see a link to Pete Docter and Michael Giacchino’s backstage interviews. If either of the winners got up for an acceptance speech, I sure hope it’ll also be made public soon.

Since BAFTAs are the equivalent of Oscars in Britain, this is certainly a big deal! I imagine that when Up wins an award against this year’s excellent ‘toons, it means that much more to the studio. Competition like Coraline and Fantastic Mr. Fox certainly can’t be ignored. On the other hand, Michael Giacchino’s win was almost a given, I don’t know of any major award show this year where Up’s soundtrack has been nominated and hasn’t won at all.

I’m sure everyone is also wondering who won Best Film and the rest of the awards, you can find that here. The Orange British Academy Film Awards are presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Congratulations, Pete Docter, Michael Giacchino and the rest of the Up team on these phenomenal wins!
