A lot of news today so a Woody’s News Roundup is in order.
Dr Ed, (Dr. Ed Catmull), from Pixar, has been selected to receive the 2006 IEEE John von Neumann Medal for his contributions to special effects in live-action and animated motion pictures.
In 1974, while studying physics and computer science at the U (University of Utah), his pioneering animation of a human hand was incorporated into the first movie to use 3-D computer graphics. His research led to four computer-graphics discoveries: Z-buffering, texture mapping, subdivision surface and rendering of bicubic patches.
The IEEE is a leading professional association for the advancement of technology. The medal will be presented to Catmull at a ceremony on June 24. (From The Daily Utah Chronicle via Animated News)

I wanna go to it! I hope it comes to Brisbane! Disney/Pixar you hear me? Brisbane, Australia – then to Wellington.
Um paying….paying……whos going to pay…..
Tokyo?
“That’s in Japan!”
😉
Ohhh if only plane tickets were cheap!!!!
Lol Nice quote! Maybe there is a hidden reference there that you picked up on!
That reminds me… I finsihed watching Toy Story extras last night and MAN did I laugh and laugh at the bit where they played other language versions of the film!
It was funny.. but also pointed out the importance of having good voice actors. Some of those voice overs sounded all the same for each char and boring!
Made me wonder if in France they run english language versions as well as dubbed ones. Pixar films are so popular over there but they have different peopel dub the films, right? Such a shame. The voices of the real Cars cast and the other films actually are classicly suited!
I think they could always buy english versions and watch subtitles with it. But they get characters that to the other countries are exactly the same as like Larry The Cable Guy etc.
I reckon they should have done an Aussie/NZ dubbed version of Cars and got like Peter Brock and stuff to do voices for some extras.
Oh and the latest Cars podcast is on the dubbed versions of Cars for around the world!
*crosses fingers for a stop in Toronto!!*
