Disney/Pixar graced the cover of The Hollywood Reporter in their weekend issue to showcase another beautiful For Your Consideration advertisement.
To differentiate from the Variety ad, THR’s version highlights Russell’s most poignant scene in Up (and now that the movie has been released worldwide I feel I can discuss this) which focuses on his estranged father. This moment touched me even more so than Married Life (and that’s saying a lot) so I’m glad it’s getting some time in the spotlight.
Up’s covers commonly draw attention to the fact that Pixar’s 10th film is the best reviewed movie of the year and also lets voters know the emotional effect it has had on certain critics. Modestly, in the bottom right corner, the ad also asks Academy members to consider Up in the fields of Best Picture and Best Animated Feature; after all, this is the Animation’s Awards Watch issue. It’s also of note that this year is Pixar’s best chance ever to land the top Acad. category because of favorable rule changes.
Hopefully the ad campaign touches those who are in power of the Oscars! Nominations will be announced on February 2nd with the actual ceremony televised live on March 7th, 2010!

Man, is that a high resolution shot! That aside, I applaude the “Hollywood Reporter” for choosing a quieter, more poignant shot over a louder one. This scene alone spoke volumes. I’m glad that they selected it.
Thanks for the report!
