Although its existence has been confirmed multiple times, Pixar’s next short has been kept safely under wraps for quite some time. Until now.
As it happens so frequently, a reputable outside source has dropped the name of what seems to be the studio’s upcoming short production. The film in question is titled Night & Day and is expected to precede Toy Story 3 in theatres this June. The production was found listed in Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency‘s PDF (scroll to page 4) representing a certain 2010 Golden Globe-winning composer.
Night & Day is directed by Pixarian Teddy Newton, with music by (surprise, surprise) Michael Giacchino. Disney vet Kevin Deters is producing and apparently the wrap party is coming up. Newton should be pretty well known among Pixar fans for his character design work on The Incredibles, Ratatouille, some of the latest Pixar shorts and their companion Little Golden Books. I don’t expect everyone to know who Deters is, although you may recognize him as the co-director of this past holiday’s Prep and Landing.
Some Observations: No plot details have been revealed yet for this particular short, but just from the title I’m guessing it’s not the rumored project, featuring a boy and his dinosaur, that Greg Dykstra was photographed working on. I do think we’ll be getting a summary very (very) soon… Also, Night & Day’s production company appears as Pixar Talking Pictures in the revelatory PDF. Those of you who watch Pixar movies ‘til the very end of the credits would know that "Talking Pictures" is Pixar’s alias for copyright law purposes in the UK. Here’s something to ponder upon: How long has Kevin Deters been in Emeryville and what could this mean for Disney? How come no one noticed the switch?
So, what do you guys think about Night & Day? What could it be about? Are you excited by the title alone?
